Scarf to cozy reversible shrug refashion

Scarf to cozy reversible shrug refashion

About a year ago I pinned this cool crochet cowl/shrug pattern, thinking that I could easily make one by refashioning a scarf. Fast forward to my daughter's school's charity fundraiser when she gets a hand knit scarf out of a surprise grab bag. Unfortunately it was not only too short to loop around her neck very well but, being knit in stockinette stitch, the edges curled over like crazy, making it roll into an uncomfortable tube.

To keep it in a rectangular shape, I decided to back the scarf with a scrap of the fuzzy polyester from my hooded towel to animal hat and scarf set refashion.

I just sewed them together, right sides together, turned and closed up the opening with a ladder stitch.

Then I joined the short sides with a ladder stitch...

...and slipped it behind my daughter's neck and under her armpits. I joined the top and bottom parts with safety pins, making sure that she could slip the shrug on and off while pinned, and then handsewed the top and bottom together with a ladder stitch.

And that was it! A nicely reversible, super cozy warm shrug!

This shrug is snuggly warm, cute and is great for in-between seasons when you just want to keep your shoulders a little warmer or to wear out in lieu of a regular jacket.
