Halloween Throwback!

Hello!!

This time last year I was trying desperately to come up with something novel for a Halloween sewing competition... Now here (in the UK, I mean) - we seem to think of Halloween being about witches, zombies, and anything else that can scare you in the middle of the night... In the US it's all about, well, anything really! Or at least, that's how it looks from the outside looking in - there's so much more you can dress up as! So, I took that green card, and decided to do a Movie Remake; an outfit from The Witches of Eastwick...
That movie is just FULL of retro inspiration (IMHO) - and you'd have to check out my blog post to read why I picked this particular outfit, but as it involved some refashioning, I thought I'd share it here :) In fact, this is my 1st Halloween here - so I'm really looking forward to seeing what it throws up with all of you in terms of refashionings!

For my project, I refashioned some plain socks into frilly (to match Susan's in the movie), and cropped a long t-shirt (to mimic to length of hers).
(I also made the skirt, but the only thrifty part about that was the pattern I used... Like Frankenstein it was cobbled together with various bits...)

Here's a shot I took in an eerily quiet car park...
I don't think anyone would guess what I was wearing, or who the inspiration was, but I was pleased with the take-away learning points I got from this project... :)

Happy Halloween!

Gema x

p.s. If anyone would like my frilly socks, I'm happy to send them to you, I don't seem to have had the opportunity to wear them since... no takers? Ah well... maybe they ARE just for kids! :D
