Skinny Jeans and a Good Dye Job

Hello Refashion Co-op. My project today started great but I pushed it too far and had to work to get it sorted out. I began with some boot-cut black jeans. I wanted to make them into skinny jeans.

I took them in all over. I tried them on and took off a bit more here and there. This is where I should have stopped. They were good but I thought gray would be better.  I soaked them in bleach and water for a few hours. Huge mistake.

Here is the result, they are an orangey-black mess. I wanted neutral and simple. This isn't either. This is a little too punk rocker for me. Or I am too middle-aged for them? Either way, they need to change.

I dyed them back to black. It was the only color that would cover this up.

Here they are, all better now. For more details about these jeans got to my blog, I Can Work With That, here.

Thanks for reading, now go make something fabulous for yourself.

You scared me for a minute. I was afraid the process ended with the Orange/Black. All I could hope for was costume materials. Great save with the slim fit black in the end.

A lot of the time black discharges to orange/rust. This is because of the make up of the black dye and the fact that it often wasn't neutral before the black dye step was taken. Sometimes if you use a discharge paste - which is not at all a bleach - you can discharge black to neutral. It has to do with the chemicals.
It is worth doing a little trial, like on your trimmed off bits, before you do the whole thing.

Glad you got it back to great! Looks good on you, especially with turquoise.

I am glad you hung in there. Your refashion looks great. I have also bleached black expecting to get white or greyish color it was pretty surprising to get orange! In my lazy case I just left it. :-)
