Refashion a Gigantic Suit into a Sleeveless Coat

In Northern California, we often see drastic swings in the temperature from one day to the next, so I'm always looking for stylish layering pieces.  When the sleeveless coat trend hit the runway this year, I knew I was going to make my own version of this trend.  I found this suit at the thrift store for around 7 dollars.  It was size 2X and enormous.  The suit came with a skirt that could fit 2 of me.

First, I chopped off the sleeves.

Then I took in the sides.

I reshaped the armhole and finished it with bias binding.

You can read all about how to refashion a suit into a sleeveless coat on my blog www.trevorlovesmommy.com

Turned out great! I too saw these in stores like White House Black Market and thought how I could save a lot of money by making one myself. But of course I haven't gotten around to it. Enjoy yours.
