Making a Money Belt

Hello Refashion Co-op. My project today is a money belt to carry cash and ID while traveling. My daughter is going to Europe and was going to buy one online. After looking, I thought I could make the belt she wanted and save her some money.

I started with this super stretchy tank top. It was never getting worn and now it had a job to do. I removed the bust portion with a quick cut of the scissors.

I folded the band of fabric in thirds and stitched vertically in several spots to make pockets. I am sorry for the washed out photo. It seemed to show the fabric best, but it looks awful.

The pockets are different sizes for cash, credit cards, and her passport. The folded belt makes little flaps over each pocket as you can see here. This way nothing can fall out.

Here is the belt on my dress form. It is made to fit low on the hips and to be worn under clothing. My daughter tried it on and declared it a success. The real test will be when she travels to Europe and back with all her ID and cash safely. (Worried mother getting more gray hair here.)

Thanks for reading this post, now go make something fun for yourself.
