Red, White, and Refashioned

Today was Independence Day here in the USA, where we wear red, white, and blue, and/or stars and stripes to echo our flag and celebrate this holiday! I did two separate refashions to be worn together this weekend, but can easily be worn with other things throughout the year. This thrifted skirt's elastic was completely shot and the length was a bit awkward. The red tunic, which I got from a clothes swap, had damaged ties and a small ink(?) stain, and was a bit too tight around the chest.

Stars and Stripes Skirt - BeforeEmbroidered Tank Top - Before

I used a well-fitting top to cut out a new tank top from the tunic, maintaining the original bottom hem with all that lovely embroidery. Then I sewed the shoulder seams and hemmed the armholes and neckline. That was simple!

Embroidered Tank Top - After

For the skirt, I replaced the worn out elastic and shortened the skirt by about 9 inches.

As always, feel free to visit me at CarissaKnits for more details and photos!
