"It's been so LONG!"

Aaaahhhh!

I'm so sorry for my LONG absence. Between a new job (same place, different role in my dept) and preparing for my brother-in-law's wedding, sewing has CRASHED on the priority list. But as we swing into fall and the chaos settles, I've decided that I'm going to make every Tuesday evening my sewing night. I love this hobby and want- nay, NEED to make time for it.

So here's the recent refash, and a little bonus!

Behold this cute shirt with a cute ruffle!

*squee* look at the flowers!

I actually liked the ruffle, but it wasn't working out :( So it had to go! I unpicked it from the collar

Of course, the unpicking left a mess which I had to stitch up

Fixing fixing...

Better already!

Sadly, the corners of the collar looked very sloppy. I needed to cover up all my 'handiwork'

So I grabbed some bits and bobs...

It was actually a tough choice, but I ended up with two teeny bits of white lace

Stitched on and much better!

Re-added the button I had to remove during unpicking

Et voila!

A close up of the collar

And the back!

And now, for the extra bit:

Bridesmaid dress! The ONLY one I could buy was about 4 sizes too big! Ugh! I thought about taking it to get it tailored but a) it was already pretty expensive b) it was certainly a one-use dress and c) why the heck have I been doing all this sewing if I can't fix it myself?!

I took it in at the back, near the zipper

And at the sides

I left all the fabric attached and didn't cut anything out; It all laid nice and flat so there was no need to hack into it

And here I am! It still looks not-perfect but it fit me and looks fine in all the pictures. Not 'technically' a refashion, I know, but I was really proud that I had the courage to fix this on my own. Refashioning has GIVEN me that confidence! :)

And there ya have it!

Back to the salt mines for now ;)

I love seeing your pretty dress. The skills you learned from refashioning payed off. And you learned something from the dress you can use again.
A lot of my posts include using alterations skills. My goal in a re-fashion is making an item functional for current needs; whether the change is in the fit or in the aesthetics of the garment.

We all benefit and grow in our sharing and support through no matter the skill applied. Thanks for sharing.

I like how they both resulted. The keyhole detail on the print shirt is a sweet detail
