The Tinfoil Superhero Shirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. My daughter tried to make a men's T-shirt into a cute summer top with little ribbon straps. She didn't like how it fit so it got tossed into the sewing pile. Recently, the restaurant she works at had a superhero night and she wanted to fix this shirt and wear it.

I cut around the decal and tried to sew it onto the gray T-shirt. It didn't work. The gray shirt was very fine and stretchy and got all puckered and the decal looked awful.

PLAN B

I started over and used iron on hem tape. I put little pieces all around the edge of the decal. I was going to iron it on to the gray shirt. It would get hot and might stick to my iron.....

So, I pulled this foil out of the kitchen drawer. It is not regular foil. It is non-stick foil. It was going to protect the decal and my iron. (At least I hoped so!)

I covered the decal with the foil, non-stick side down and started to iron. It got very hot and the iron on tape started to stick. I left the foil in place and flipped the whole shirt over and ironed from the back as well. It was sticking nicely. I left it to cool for a little while.

When it was nice a cool I peeled the foil away. It worked great. The decal was a little shiny but otherwise in perfect condition.

Here is the finished shirt. She was happy to be Captain America for the night at work.
