The Overwhelming Denim Suit

Hello Refashion Co-op. I found this unique suit at a clothes swap. It was so well made but it was too embellished for me to pull off. But I always try to find a way to refashion unusual items to work for me,

I was a little overwhelmed by the jacket so I focused on the skirt. It was stretched out in the elastic waist but it fit well through the hips and caboose. It was obviously too long too.

Here you can see what I cut off. The pockets added bulk to my tummy. I have I have plenty of tummy so I decided to remove them. I made a big cut right between the upper navy blue patches.

The skirt is shorter now ans simpler. I like it a lot now. The one navy blue patch is interesting and cute.

Do you have any ideas for this jacket? I can't think of a refashion idea for this one. Let me know in the comments.

Thanks for reading, for more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

That skirt is so cute. I like the frayed bottom. Good for you for seeing the potential in all that denim.

Thanks! I think the skirt was the easy part, I am still at a lose about that jacket. :)

The fabric from the jacket could be used for a purse or bag.

consider changing the sleeves, either:
1) remove and shape the jacket to a sleeveless a long vest
2) change out the sleeves to sweater type material or leather
3) shorten jacket length

I think I would dye the jacket navy or black first so the embellishments only look like texture. Then get rid of the closures & sleeves & make it into a tunic or vest like janice chang suggested.

I would chop the jacket off shorter, and maybe drop the front neck, and make the sleeves 3/4 length.
Skirt looks very cute.

I like the other commenters suggestion of a long vest. I, personally, would lop off the sleeves and lose the closure, then turn it into a sleeveless dress bodice and add the skirt scrap to make a denim dress. Add a belt as needed.

Look at last years makers.com denim challenge for ideas. Could combine skirt fabric and remove sleeves to make jumper or dress

I like the shortened skirt with the unhemmed edge. Good luck with that jacket! I know you'll come up with something funky!

What a difference you made with the skirt. I love it now too. It's just right.

There's a lot going on with that jacket for sure :) But it would make an awesome tote bag with one of those buttons for a closure!
