Linen skirt refashion with lace

I found a too big skirt that was made of linen. I had no idea why I got linen because I actually hate linen because it gets wrinkled so fast.  I took awhile to figure out what I wanted to do with it. I disliked the buttons and pockets. I had a piece of lace that was a curtain that I figured I would cover up those pockets and hide the fact I was wearing linen.

I dyed the lace with purple iDYE. Then I attached it to the skirt, I cut off the linen skirt and made it shorter. I also took a little of the A-line out of the skirt to accommodate the lace. What I had leftover was this cute 2 color lace and linen skirt. And all those darn linen wrinkles were hidden. Success.

Sweater Revamp

I used sleeves from a previous refashion to replace sleeves on a old too big sweater to make myself a new top. I took it in some but I almost need to do it again.

As an added bonus, I used the sleeves to turn it into a cat sweater. The winter is coming and he gets cold easily. For a cat, I was so surprised that he loved his sweater. He was so happy.

Big top to halter top!

I found this large white top with a cute crochet neckline that I thought had a lot of potential. I dyed it with some RIT dye. Dettached the neckline, took off the sleeves, took in the top, and removed the waistband.

What I got was a fabulous halter top which it might be too cold to wear but I will have something fabulous waiting for me come summer time.

The shirt my grandmother would wear

This top reminded me of something my grandmother would wear in sunny Florida. Sort of boxy. Sort of meh. After removing the collar, redoing the neckline, adding elastic to the sleeves, and taking it in, I had a shirt I now love to wear. It is just so simple and easy-chic.

The why sweater?

I called this the why sweater b/c I wondered why you would ruin a perfectly good sweater with a ruffle.
A pretty blue and white sweater with a dark red ruffle, which is even worse. I know it is not a dress because it doesn't cover my bum. But it isn't a kids sweater b.c it had soft built in bra cups.
I carefully and slowly unpicked the ruffle with my seam ripper, making sure I didn't put a hole in the knit. I didn't... Nice new sweater.
Sometimes it is just something simple to fix. More info here.

A no-sew white dress fix

I don;t look well in white and I have a bunch of dye from my mom that I would like to use up. I dyed this white dress navy blue using RIT dye, then took a little off the bottom. The results are truly a refashioner's dream- the lace didn't take leaving a wonderful mix of colors.

Oh that pantsuit!!!!

I found this pantsuit and got challenged to refashion it. It was a smidge too tight for a pantsuit that you would wear in public. And the color was sooooo wrong for me.

Luckily it was cotton so there was color hope. First I converted the pants portion into a skirt. which was tricky b/c it tappered. I had to add an insert. Then I tie-dyed the dress. A simple hem and then I was done! And no zippers were needed and I have pockets. yay I love pockets!

Cherry Cherry Dress Refashion

From muu-muu to a cute fun dress. I love those big teacher muu-muus. There is so much fabric that I can play around with the end product. I used a commercial pattern to refashion this into a fun short dress. Everything got reworked.

Fit to be tied tank top

This refashion was based on the book Custom Couture, which I got sometime last year. I had fallen for this top idea. After picking out an old tank top and a scrap of fabric, I realized something got lost in translation with the instructions and I had to wing it on my own. Basically you create  a tube, sew it on, add elastic to the bottom. Add a bow.

I just need to pair it with another pair of shorts. The red is not working for me. More info on my blog here!

Funky Maxi dress to a dress and skirt

My biggest issue with maxi dresses is the fact I am tall and usually they are never long enough. Never. This one was almost manageable but the problem was there was not enough walking ease for my long legs.

Instead of adding a slit, which I had initially planned, I decided I would actually wear it if it was not a maxi. So one cut and some sewing, I had a shorter dress perfect for lounging around and a easy skirt.

Dress part 1 here, skirt part 2 here.

Dress to fringe top

This purple dress has been with me for a long time. I had planned on using it to accent a bellydance costume but then I moved and don't dance anymore. Then it sat. Then I saw something on pinterest and got inspired to turn it into a fringe top. It is almost a ZERO WASTE refashion but I have 2 strips left. I cut in half, used the bottom to make fringe. I used the hem as the base and cut 1 inch strips. Then I sewed 3 layers onto the top. Done! Fun fringe top! Now I just need to go to a music festival.

Massive jeans into a dress!

Happy end of weekend. I am finally catching up with my blogging, life has gotten in the way of my life. I found these massive jeans at a by-the-pound Goodwill. I decided to turn them into a dress.

The top of the pants were turned upside down and cut a little short than half. Then the remainder of the jean fabric I made into a bodice using a pattern. Connect the 2- add a zipper and done! New dress. More info on my blog here!

2 flowy blouses

I have 2 flowy blouses today for refashions.

The first one comes from a table runner (or whatever it was- it is still up for debate). I converted it to a tunic top by simply folding it in half, making a neck hole, and adding a quick line of sewing to make it form fitting. More information here.

Next I had a blouse that was too big and I decided to do a "quick fix" by adding buttonholes so I can take in the top at the waist with a belt. Done! More information here.

4XL Men's Polo to Dress Refashion

Yes this polo is huge! I converted it to a dress. I used a sleeve to make the bodice. I made a skirt from the bottom portion of the dress, I pleated it and also added some elastic.

The end product was a fun halter dress I wore to a festival here in DC. For more information on this refashion click here.

Send in the clowns refashion

The only words I could describe this refashion was "mother of the bride at a clown wedding". I mean really where did this dress come from?
I used a pattern and used iDye Poly to dye it steel grey. Now the only clown feeling I get is from my nose...

Dress to peplum

I found this wonderful, sort of chiffon, flowered dress that came with its own belt!
The first portion of this refashion I decided to convert it to a quick peplum top. Cut and hem sort of fix.

skirt to scrunched blouse

I don't have a before picture, but it was a basic really large, semi-maxi skirt made from a gorgeous paisley skirt. I have a thing for paisleys. Badly. I don't understand it.
I used a pattern to convert the skirt, which I didn't have enough to cut the cords on the bias, but I made it work!!!
For more information on this blouse, go here! I highly recommend the pattern. Really easy. And something different. :)
