Boy's Shorts

Hey! Magda E. from House of Estrela here. Still showing you my refashions for the Refashion Month Series last month, today I will bring you a pair of shorts I did for my nephew.
I used a pair of adult jeans for the main shorts and used a piece from a skull printed bag of mine I was wearing for years, but felt terrible hard to part with.

The bonus? My nephew, who's 8 and generally doesn't like much what I make him anymore, loved this ones.

Red Velvet Jacket

Hey! Magda E. from House of Estrela here. This past month I have hosted a refashioning series in my blog, but not only I had lots of guests sharing their inspirational works with us, I have also achieved my goal of at least 4 refashion items done during the month. I could have done more if I didn't get a huge flu and been in bed for days.

The first things I did was turning this pair of red velvet pants...

... into a new jacket for my daughter.

And oh boy, do I love it? Read more about it HERE.

Saving toddler pants II and onesies

Just like I did for my little cousin's jeans, I had a costumer asked me to same his little girl's pants. They weren't fitting in lenght, but they were perfectly fitting in the waist and hips. So, again, like I've shared in my latest post, I turned them into shorts and everyone's happy. all I had to do was cut off the legs, and hem.

Also, my little girl isn't using diapers anymore, so onesies aren't practical for her to take off on her own. In the other hand, the weather's been cold and she didn't have many undershirts to wear. One of these days, I was just putting those onesies aside to keep them for the next baby, when I suddently thought that maybe I could cut them. I mean, she has so many, her sibling wouldn't be out of them anyway.

I only used the white part of the adult's shirt for two onesies. one is not in the photo because she was actually wearing it. I just wanted to share the idea. the two other onesies on top are still waiting for the same treatment.

So, I cut 4 of them, the idea was to attach a piece of knit from other shirts to make them longer... so they aren't always out of her pants/shorts/skirts... It worked just fine and again, everyone is happy.

I know these aren't very interesting refashions, but I promise there are a few good ones on the way. meanwhile, if you allow me, I'd like to invite you all to follow and if you'd like, to sew along the series I am hosting in my blog all through the month. January Refashion Month, where a lot of guests are sharing their best refashions, tips and tutorials.

Saving toddler pants

That's one of the easiest things to do, really! When your kids outgrow their pants you don't have to say goodbye to them.

A couple of weeks ago, my cousin was going through her daughter's clothes (who's 8 months older than mine and so, mine gets all her clothes when they don't fit her anymore)... and she realised she had way too many pair of pants.. and so did mine too.

What to do? Simple, right? Cute a pair of them into shorts, hem and that's it. I used a double needle stitch on the hem to keep it looking cute, and because the fabric had a bit of elastic on both.

Going green

In both ways. Ecollogically because I am reusing something that already existed, and in the actual green colour.

I was in love with this dress when my mother gave it to me. again, someone had given it away and it didn't fit her, so she always brings those pieces for me to see. Sometimes, when I like them and they fit me, I keep them as they are, but other times, they are just perfect to go into my refashioning pile.

This was the case. The dress was too big for me and at first I considered just taking in a bit to make it fit, but then I was going to be part of a pattern tour in my blog and that fabric would be so cute in a little tunic for my daughter.

And well, that's what I ended up doing. I used the original dress best features: the lace on the bottom, the ruffles... and turned it into this:

From women's to little girl's

Since my mom brought this sweater I knew exactly what to do with it. I wanted to do a mini dress/sweater for my little girl. I basicly only had to resize it to fit my 2 year old, and tried as I could to keep the same kind of turtle neck, that opens and has buttons showing. Read all about it here

My peplum failure

Hello everyone! It feel good to be part of the Refashion Co-op again. I think I will have much more to show you now than I had the first time I was part of this community. Today, I'm starting by sharing my failure during the Refashion Runway competition. I actually competed with another peplum piece, but this had been the first try.

I've started with these:
both from the hubby

I just wanted to share the master fail, the one I didn't like, didn't want to use in the competition. Perhaps some of you actually like it, I had friends telling me I should have competed with this instead of the other, so, I'd really like to know what you think, even though it won't change the way I feel about it.

Besides, hubby's shirts were all that big and this was far from modest for me, a mom of a two year old that often has to bend to pick her up... there's no way I am wearing it out any time soon (or ever!).

And how did I make it? You can check it out over
there are a few more photos and info about this peplum.

Simple, no sew refashion

In my urgent need to get Summer clothes, I've recently turned a pair of pants into a pair of shorts just by cutting off the excess fabric on the legs.
I really didn't like the original piece. It fitted me pretty well, but legs were too short for me.

When I recovered them from my bin (where it stood for too long), it was all pinned in order to turn them into skinnys but I wanted a new pair of shorts, and that's what I made.

I first thought about adding a contrast fabric to the seams, but then I gave up on that idea. Just cut. And that's it... I like to unfinished look... always have... I have been wearing them a lot ever since, they are comfortable and easy to match. =)

From top to skirt

I really need summer clothes. I do have a lot, but they just don't look good together... or maybe I'm just tired of my old clothes. Either way, that was the perfect excuse to start refashioning a bit more. I've been trying to keep these very simple though, because I need the clothes, I need those projects to be quick and efective.

For this one, I used a top I was given last year, and I have used a lot while nursing, but my little ladies are really too little and it didn't fit me properly anymore. I just had to cut, create a waist band with an elastic and voilá, I got myself a new skirt.

And the final touch!

I realised I didn't really share here in this blog, what I first have made out of two shirts, then I used the leftovers and did this here too. But since I wasn't happy with the fabric left going to garbage, I realised something else, so the outfit for my baby G. would be complete. Here's her latest top.

All you can do with a t-shirt and a shirt!!!

Do you still remember this refashion?

Well, I finally found out what to do with the leftovers, and have turned them into a lovely skirt + panties + headband for my little G. I still want to make her a tank top or something, but I have to check if there was enough left from the white t-shirt.

Refashion Month: 3rd week

For the third week of my self challenge of making at least one refashion  month, I kept it very simple.
Don't know if you have seen it, but I've been making some sort of walking around the house/pajama pants for my little girl out of her daddy's shirts. So, I made one out of my own too, and had started another one, I just cut it and then left it around the pile of thing to sort out.
Since I didn't really make anything gorgeous, I thought at least I would make it to the 3rd week with a little thing, and it was the pants.
Here they are:

#2 - From daddy's clothes series.

BEFORE
Can you remember my last post? Well, back then I didn't show you the before picture of the sweatshirt, because I totally forgot to do it. Today though, I come back to continue with this series of pants I made her. So, here's the second pair of pants I made from the same shirt. For the first one I used the sleeves, and for the second one the body, which needed extra sewing. Here's what they look like:
The other leg is just black. They are very handy, she can freely crawl all around, though now she's more likely holding furniture and walking on her feet...

#1 - From daddy's clothes series.

I have to apologise that I haven't posted anything before. I was planning to, but I had a few problems with my USB and I couldn't pass my photos into the computer. Of course I was really mad at it, but the problem is finally solved and I get to show what I've done.

After selecting V.'s clothes to charity and to throw away I had a few I'd like to turn into something else. With a crawling baby, I used a sweat shirt to make two pair of pants for her. The first one is the one from the picture below, and was made out of the sleeves.

Maternity shirt from a man's shirt!

Hello everyone!

When I wrote this post I told you that shirt I was wearing was also a refashion. And I promised to share it, so here it goes.

I am so sorry I don't have a before photo...

I had picture taken during the process so I made a little tutorial on my blog, but I guess it's not a very good one. Go check it out!

Still from the Pants Refashion

Hello everyone!
I don't know if you saw it or not, but a few days ago, I have post the result of a pair of pants turned into two pairs of shorts (one for me and one for my daughter). I made hers from one leg leftovers, and still had another leg left to use. I made her a pair of boots, matching the shorts. I only used one side of this leg, still have another left and I've been wondering what the hell can I make out of it?! Any thoughts?!
I was inspired in a pair of boots she already had, but I don't think I did that well with this boots. They are wearable, although still a little big on her, I have to try to do a better pair soon.
Here's what they looked like:

One pants, two shorts!

Hello creative people!
Sorry it took me more than I expected to come back with my second entry. That's because I wanted to post the tutorial for this refashion in my personal blog first.

From a pair of pants, I made myself a new pair of shorts. And, then a made the most lovely shorts for my little princess too.

The shirt I am wearing here, was also a refashion I made a while ago. I plan to share here sometime soon, I just need to find the photos first. =)

Mom & Daughter Dress

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting, so I hope you'll like my refashions.

I'll start with this mom and daughter dress. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the before because I started this project longgg ago, but only made it recently.

I had this long stripped dress, and I wasn't pleased with it no longer, so, my idea was to make it shorter by cutting it a little. A little later (1-2 years?!), I am a mommie, and I found that piece of fabric I had cut out from the original dress.

So, what I did was to turn it into a little dress for my baby... matching mine of course.
