New Socks !

Hello folks !

Been MIA a bit.  I had to put down my 13 year old cat and it kind of took a toll on me for a little while.  Also, I had a TON of grading to do.  Oh well, such is the life of a high school teacher !

In other news, I finally got to make myself a new pair of socks !

I had this embroidered polar fleece shirt and thought this would be perfect for new socks.  I tell you guys, this pattern is SO nice  and comfortable !  I made a couple of pairs already but now that I had time to wear them, I knew just how to tweak them to be more comfortable and useful.

Since they are made from the same pattern, they are hard to differentiate the left from the right.  But wearing them makes a shape into it so if you wear the wrong one on the wrong foot, it is a bit uncomfortable (am I a bit anal ?...).  Anywho, here is the shirt:

And here are the socks:

They are so comfy and warm for those, STILL, cold days and nights.

So hope you liked them and that it inspired you to make some.  They also make wonderful (and cheap ;) gifts !  You can see more details on my blog: Sewliltime.

Girl's Christmas Dress Recon

Hello all !

Can't believe this is 2014 !!!  Hope everyone has had wonderful holidays.  Mine was very busy but productive.  I had time to sew a lot but mostly accessories.  But I managed to whip up a reconstruction for my niece.

I started with red jersey tops:

And made this simple cute red dress for my darling 7 year old niece:

Isn't she precious ?

She loved it !

Put Your Best Foot Forward !

Hello Refashion Community !

It's been a long time since I posted and I must admit, I don't have a lot of time during the school year to sew, hence my blog name Sewliltime !  However, I found a very FAST project that was worthy of publishing.

While organizing my sewing room, I found this piece of t-shirt that I had used to make this second t-shirt.

It is a double knit so very stretchy.  So I made these:

I love, love, love them !  So soft and comfy and FREE !  And all it took was less than 2 minutes and a serger.   You can see more of the story on my blog.

A Cool Mock-Up And A Question For You

Hello people !

We are well into summer and I finally got my sewing mojo back !

I have all these t-shirt scraps ALL OVER THE PLACE.  So I need to get rid of use them so I can get space for more...

I have this really cool mod-60ish tunic that I really love - and it is yellow ! I though I would make another like it with some of those pesky t-shirt scraps.

Here is the tunic:

You can't see the center vertical band but it is there.

So I wanted to make a mock-up before I used the "good" t-shirt scraps.  At one point in my creative journey, I wanted to make some underwear to sell so I bought a lot of pajamas and nightgowns for the cute fabrics.  So I have A LOT of those.  I also used them to make a mock-up of my prom dress.  Anywho, here is what my mock-up looks like:

First, I tried it with no sleeves: (sorry for the weird face... ugh...)

As you can see, the edges are not finished.  So I decided that it DID need sleeves.  Unfortunately, I did not have enough of the green fabric to make them so I got the closest I could.  So here is the result.  Not too bad for a lot of nighties ?

Here is the back:

Oh, and by the way, I made another with a different placement of the pieces and was wondering which PLACEMENT was better (ignore the colors... or the face):

View A:

 Or view B: ?

Which one do you think is better ?

Thanks for reading.  You can get more pictures here on my blog sewliltime.

Peace !

50's T-shirt Dress Redo

It has been a long time but alas, I am on vacation so I can sew.  Yay !

I have a lot of XXL used t-shirts that I like the designs of.  So I need to make something out of them.

So, without further ado, here is the before:

I like the design: Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil...

Since I like the 50's style and I can still wear form fitting clothes, here is what I made:

Very easy to make.  I have the instructions on my blog Sewliltime.

Easter Peplum Top

Hello people !

I don't have a lot of time to sew lately but I found a tutorial that struck my eye - a refashioned peplum top.

So I had this too-large turtleneck in a funky hot pink leopard print that would be perfect for this:

Here it is before:

A Cool and Colourful T-shirt !

Hello to all,

Here is a quick project I made a few years ago and I have not posted here.  I was teaching a sewing afterschool activity and we had a lot of donated t-shirts.  So I made a patchwork t-shirt, using all those old donated t-shirts.  I used one of my t-shirts for the pattern.  It is still, to this day, one of my favorite t-shirts and it goes with litterally EVERYTHING !

I never thought it would come out so nice !  And I did not even have my serger yet !

Here is the back - a plain burgundy that matches the sleeves.  All from large men's t-shirts !

I am also wearing a really cool necklace made from a drawer handle, a fork and some other knikc-knacks.

A great project for those pesky scraps we don't have the heart to throw out !

Hope you liked it !

Lots more projects on my blog: sewliltime.

Refashioning For Winter

Hey all,

Been very busy with work but winter is coming fast here in Canada.  So I started to get my winter clothes out and found a refashion from a couple of year ago, before I was blogging and taking pictures of everything I made.   So I started with a simple, bulky, woolen men's sweater that looked like this one, but in grey:

And turned it into a more feminine, longer sweater with lettuce edging:

I really like the final result !  Come see me at my blog: Sewliltime for more creations.

Bling For Cheap !

Hey Co-opers !

It has been a long time since I posted !  But I have not been idle at all.  I am in organization mode so I have been working hard.  I will be refashioning soon because school is starting again and I need some new clothes to work.  But I also need some accessories and, in my cleaning spree, I found these items I made some time ago:

Can you guess what they are made of ?  Lightweight and cheap...  Don't they remind you of Starburst bracelets ?

Here they are on me:

If you want to know how I made them, come over to my blog: Sewliltime.

Skirt To Jeans...

Yep, you read right:  I made JEANS FROM a SKIRT and not the other way around.  With a little fiddling around, I went from this:

Maxi, unflattering (for me) skirt, with cute little "X" detail on the side
 To this:
Almost finished jeans (I still have to hem them)

And the back view.
The proof is in the little "X's" on the side...

There is a "how-to" and more pictures on my blog: Sewliltime.

Sunhat

Hey guys,

The brilliant and scorching sun over here has prompted me to finish my WIP sunhat from last year.  I joined the shell and lining together and added a piece of metal wire to the edge of the brim for the hat to keep its shape.  I can wear the brim down:

Or up:

By the way, I used very ugly pants (no pic, sorry) to make this cool hat.

Underwear From T-shirts

Hey folks !

The wonderful thing about sewing is you can make practically all your clothes !  I have been making my underwear for a while now and I thought I would share with you some specimens:

It is really fast and easy, and with a few tips, you too can have personnalized undies !

If you are interested, I have a tutorial on my blog: Sewliltime.

T-shirt Summer dresses

Hey all !

So I thought I would share with you a couple of summer dresses made from t-shirts.

So, this first dress I wore to my aunt's wedding.  Made from piecing and serging inside.  I traced the pattern on my dress form with princess lines and scalloped edges:

Lined bodice and elastic to the top.

The next dresses were made last year, using... t-shirts !  They all have exposed serged seams and are not lined.  They are from my own pattern.

Cute and confortable work dress.

My grasshopper dress.  Very form-fitting for a night on the town !

My fun bubblegum dress.
So I need suggestions:

1- Embellishment ideas for my "wedding" day dress.
2- I thought of shortening and adding a ruffle to my bubblegum dress.  Pro or con ?

So which do you prefer ?
