An RBG Memorial T-Shirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. I'm sure you have heard of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death. Over my lifetime I have enjoyed things like school sports, having my own bank account, signing a lease agreement by myself... you get the idea. I decided to honor RBG with one of my favorite things; a t-shirt refashion.

I started with a back t-shirt my husband didn't want. It is a plain men's large.

I added some white lace at the neck. It is the widest lace I had. It is a quick and easy imitation of RBG's dissent collar.

I also used some smaller trim to decorate my back Converse sneakers.

I love how they turned out, I would wear them anywhere and everywhere. And I probably will. Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

ruffle hem dress from men's shirt

To sew this dress I used men's shirt and a sheet. The sheet was needed to make the dress wearable as shirt was quite small and I didn't have enough fabric to make it enough long. Too short dresses and skirts look lovely on photos but you will not wear them in real life , it's important for me that all my handmade clothes are comfy and wearable.

End of Season Nautical Refash

 Hey folks!

For me, it’s always hard to say goodbye to summer. So, when my mom gave me this nautical inspired shirt it made the summer live on!

First of all, I took in the sides to make this more fitted.

I opened up the shoulder seam and sewed back the raw edges.

To add a little flair I added these silver buttons!

Happy Refashioning!!!

The Ruffly Denim Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. We are in those warm days at the beginning of fall that are too hot for boots and sweaters where I live. I made a nice transition piece from this denim dress with a big off-the-shoulder ruffle. It was supposed to be off-my-shoulders. It would not stay put, any slight movement on my part and that dress would ride up and suddenly be A LOT shorter. Awkward!

I removed the shoulder ruffle and made the dress into a skirt. I used the decorative elastic as the waistband. It matched and it was right in my hands. Very easy!

The elastic had wonderful fall colors and made this skirt even more perfect for this time of year.

Matching Set From Sweatpants

My inspiration to sew this matching set  was beautiful bollywood star  Janhvi Kapoor, her set was orange but well I thrifted only black sweatpants , couldn't find orange one. It was one of my easiest refashions as this fabric , cotton with elastan, is super easy to work with.
I definitely recommend it for beginners .

Sweats 2

Hello Refashion Co-op. I acquired (Honestly!) a second pair of men's sweat pants from someone in my home and did a little down-sizing to make them work for me. It was easier than I thought it would be. I should have done it a long time ago.

I made new side seams and sadly lost the nice side stripes and side pockets. This was an easy way to make the pants smaller. These were not high-waisted on my man but on me these pants are more of a high waist. I like a higher waist, so it's all good.

I was able to save the back pocket and it is large enough for my phone. I don't think I have had a pair of woman's sweats with a real working pocket like this. I have never had a zipper pocket. Why? I have belongings. I carry stuff. Why aren't there more pockets? Pockets for everyone!

Sweats #1

Hello Refashion Co-op. How are you doing? I have beentrying to exercise more. I always say I am going to exercise and then something comes up and I don't get to it. More exercise clothes would help, right? It couldn't hurt.

These casual gray sweats were perfect for what I wanted. These were in the give away pile in my house  so that means they are mine to take. I try not to out-right steal from my family. I will take their hand-me-downs though.

It was hot the day I started sewing so I made shorts. I have out-grown some of my clothes thanks to Corona snacking so these shorts would be really useful. I cut the legs off and made new side seams. I hemmed the legs and I was done. There was a drawstring at the waist but it was also elastic so I ignored the drawstring. It was not really needed.

These shorts were perfect for going out walking. I was able to keep the back pocket intact. And it is big enough for my phone! I did actually go for a walk too.

Shop my closet for suits.

Shop my closet for suits. #97-101  of my Back to School Re-fashions.

CHALLENGES:
  • Four years ago, I self-challenged to shop my closet, the re-fashion and the fabric stash.
  • This school summer vacation, I self-challenged to mend, alter, change buttons on 100 items.
  • This post makes 101"Light Re-fashions" in the Back to School rotation.
  • Now I can start on "Full-on Re-fashions"
BEFORE:
  • Linen blend suit from the closet that I made several years ago.
  • Flower vest is a denim that would make fun pants.
  • Animals vest is a heavy linen blend weave.
WORK INCLUDED:
  • Change out worn covered buttons with buttons from the stash.
  • Raise the hem by re-stitching the waist. Hemming the lined hemline was no-go.

The Pencil Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. It is back to school time in a lot of places. In the U.S. a lot of kids are doing school online or homeschooling this year. I am homeschooling my 5 year old so we are getting excited about Kindergarten. I thought some fun comfy "school" themed clothing would be a good idea.

I had a comfortable dress and needed a way to make it more exciting. I decided to paint it. I used pieces of cushion that I cut into basic shapes and started stamping out pencil shapes.

I added eraser shapes and so on until I had a pencil. I filled in with a paint brush to get the paint to fully cover the fabric.

I added some bright yellow rick-rack to the neckline because... why not?

My dress was finished and dry in time for out first day of school. The acrylic paint will fade a little in the wash but it will not wash out. I have tried it many times. Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That to see more.

Coachella Inspired Dress

Hi All! I have a failed refash that rose from the ashes to become a simply fantastic refashion!

My original plan for this oversized dress was to make it a dress turned pants suit. Sounds pretty good, huh? Well, that's what I thought too until disaster struck.

I unfortunately had cut too high on the pants and the crotch ended up where my belly button would be. Oops! Being woefully upset and frustraited I scrapped the whole project. Until....I had some inspiration from looking at some pictures of Coachella fashion.

Firstly, I sewed the back of the dress back together to make it a dress again.

I sewed the front of the dress together a few inches down from the waistline. I left the bottom open and sewed the raw edge. I wanted this to be a boho style dress that I could wear a pair of shorts underneath.

To finish off the dress I added this large button at the center of the waistline.

Here is my final look! This was a great look for a hot summer day!

Happy Refashioning!!!
