Customize thrift store jeans with DIY appliques and patches

Dress up a pair of thrift store jeans with DIY appliques!  This project takes less than 1 hour to make thanks to some fusible adhesive.  Check out the step by step tutorial in my YouTube video.

I bought half a yard of upholstery fabric in a pretty floral pattern.  This fabric gave me lots of flowers of different sizes to play with.

I fused HeatnBond to the back of the fabric.

Then I cut out a bunch of flowers.

Peel off the paper backing before ironing in place.

Arrange the flowers in a pattern you like and iron them in place.

Enjoy your beautiful jeans!

Floral Suede Shirt Refash

I picked up this lovely shirt because of the beautiful floral print and the soft fauz suede feel of the material! I’m not a total fan of collared shirts for ladies, I believe they aren’t very flattering. So, that gave me some inspiration to make this a more feminine shirt!

Alright! I dove right in! I removed the sleeves and the collar for starters.

I took the shirt over to my dress form and started to take the sides in for a more fitted look. Once the sides were taken in, I sewed a new hem around where the sleeves were. Then I stitched where I took the collar off.

I took the sleeves from a pink lace shirt and placed it on the front shoulder area of the floral shirt. I stitched it in place and with my very sharp scissors carefully trimmed the excess lace from around the stitching.

A few simple changes really makes this a new shirt!

Happy Refashioning, Crafting and Upscaling!!!

My Jeans Are Too Tight

Hello Refashion Co-op. I can't be the only one that has gotten too big for their britches, right? Corona restrictions have made my jeans uncomfortable and tight.

I cut the side seams open on the outside of both pants legs.

I used the left-over pant legs from a pair of sweat pants. I cut the sweats at an angle like bias tape. That made long strips of gray fabric.

I used those strips of gray fabric to make my jeans bigger. I added an inch and a half to each side. It made a nice stripe down each leg. I also used the biding at the ankle of the sweatpants. I put the binding at the ankle of my jeans. They match my sparkly sweatshirt perfectly.

The Fall Denim Dress

Hello Refashion Co-op. I have another fall themed dress. This on had sunflowers and wheat grass on it. It was really long and dowdy on me.

I used a pattern as a guide to make a denim wrap skirt. I like how wrap skirts can adjust so they always fit. I thought this would be great for the holidays.

I used the hem from the dress to make a waistband and tie to close the skirt.

I didn't want a long tie at the waist. I used this button and a little Velcro to make sure the waist stays closed but is able to adjust a little every time I wear it.

This skirt should fit no matter what.

Removing a Turtleneck

Hello Refashion Co-op. I hate turtleneck shirts. I know they are warm but I feel like they are going to strangle me. I decided to do a turtleneck removal refashion.

I cut the neck off the shirt. I used the cut off fabric to make binding for the neckline. I just wanted a round neck, like a t-shirt.

I attached the new binding with my machine. I went over it again from the outside to make sure it would lay flat when I wore it.

My new shirt with a comfortable open neckline was done in no time.

 Hello refashion co-op!

My sister in law gave me a dress for my daughter which had some stains on front side.

I wanted to cover them so I used pom pon trim to make a cloud and sequin trim to make the rain.

Thank you for reading!

A 2 for 1 Refashion

I fell in love with the floral print of this XXL dress I picked up at the thrift store.  There was enough fabric for 2 refashions.

Refashion 1:  I took the top tier of the skirt and made poofy sleeves that I grafted on to a t-shirt.

Refashion 2:  I took in the shoulders and added a ruffle for a peplum top.

The Fall Dress to Skirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. How are you? Votes are being counted and I am anxious like 99% of America. Sewing helps me keep it together, so let's get to it.

I found this really bland fall themed dress at a clothes swap. It was frumpy and the appliques wer dated.  I thought it was awful, but the green corduroy fabric was really nice.

I used a pattern (Sort of.) and cut out pieces to make a wrap skirt. I did not used the top piece with the appliques.

The pattern wanted the opening in the back and the tie in the front but I liked it the opposite way. I tied it in the back and kept the opening in the front.

Diy | two piece set | blouse refashion

I really liked this blouse , it has lovely warm yellow color and had nice form , much fitter to  body but after few laundries  it changed , became too big and I didn't look nice in it any more. Despite this I still liked the color a lot , I decided to recycle it and gain 2 new outfits .

Shopping my closet for black toppers.

#1-4 Shopping my closet for black topers.

This is the start of my fall-winter self-challenge to shop from my closet and re-fashion stash.

  •          Back to school limits sewing time.
  •      Includes minor re-fashions.
  •      Goal:  100 items by end of winter break.

These 3 toppers and Henley are from my closet.  I wore them last week and found minor changes.

Work included:

1)   Remove heavy, scratchy metal zipper from comfy jacket. Never use the zipper: it snowed 1 time in 3 years. Cool mornings warm up by afternoon.

2) Remove heavy, scratchy metal zipper from vest. Snaps secure if needed. Work lanyard, jewelry, mask are enough.

3) Remove button and worn tab from pocket. Add top stitching to hold front facing in place.

4) Shorten sleeve length in the lounge / sleep Henley t-shirt. Cut and re-seam at drop sleeve.
