Breezy Tank Refashion

 

 I wanted to accentuate the collar pattern at the top with a different color material. I used this beautiful blue/purple shimmery fabric that I had left over from helping a friend add more fabric to a t-shirt.

I began by tracing the collar detail and made my very own pattern!

Pinned it on the material and began cutting it out.  

  

 Pinned my ‘socks’ to the shirt.

I began sewing. Everything was going smoothly…

Then THIS happened! 

GRRRRR! You’ve got to be kidding me!!!!! After I calmed down after my fit of rage, I used my seam ripper to get rid of this boo-boo and started again.

Then I wanted to add a fabric flower to the bottom of the shirt. I made my own pattern by tracing an image of a flower. I really wanted this flower to have a full look rather than being totally flat so I pinned and cut two flowers!

With my trusty sewing machine I sewed the bottom flower on…

 

Then I stitched the top flower on with some embroidery thread that matched the shirt color for some extra pizzaz! But I wasn’t done there! Oh no!

 

I added three buttons to the middle of the flower too!

 

 

I am so super excited about how this turned out! My face doesn’t really reflect how excited I am but trust me, I can’t wait to wear this on a hot summer day!

The Shorts Dress Refash

 

After I purchased this dress I took it home only to find out that it is not a dress at all! It is a shorts dress! I was so delighted, how neat! (Pay no attention to my face. Where am I even looking?)

I wasn’t too crazy about the faded white background of this “dress” so I put it into the washer with some Teal fabric dye.

Once my “dress” came out of the dye I took in the sides by a 1 1/2 inches. Sewed that  up and Bingo! A new summer outfit!

Yellow Silk

 Hello Refashion Co-op. I wanted to use this pretty silk fabric from my mother-in-law. It is actually supposed to be used in home decor but today it's going to be a skirt. 

Before-Silk decor fabric. After-A wrap skirt for me. 

I had a long narrow rectangle of yellow floral silk. I decided to make a wrap skirt because the size and shape of the fabric. The weight was great for a wrap skirt too. It was stiff and thick enough to make a great skirt.

I made the skirt but I needed to make some kind of waistband that could tie the skirt closed. I used this bias tape instead of trying to make my own. I did not have that much fabric left over to work with. And this was easy and quick.

 

I added a magnetic snap to keep the skirt layers together inside the skirt. I sewed it in by hand.

Jeans upcycled with embroidered daisies

 

I just returned from a lovely holiday in Brittany, France, and I wanted to share a small campsite project with you: a jeans upcycle with embroidery. I don't know about you, but when I'm on vacation I kind of (secretly) miss my sewing machine and my time of 'zen-handicraft'. So when I came across this fun embroidery kit for upcycling clothes in a store, I immediately got excited. It was of course a small project, but I really loved the idea of upcycling with embroidery and it was so much fun to do at the campsite! 

Fortunately, I had packed the perfect garment to try it out with: the jeans I'd pimped with a fringe and high waist last year. And now I was going for another upcycle: embroidering a row of cute daisies alongside the entrance of a pocket. 

The kit came with everything I needed to get started: different colors of yarn, a needle , explanation of the used stitches and fun patterns on 'magic paper'. Which turned out te be soluble interfacing, but 'magic paper' sounds way better of course...

Me, pushing the rather blunt needle through the jeans....

The double orange french knot makes all the difference!

Dress to 2 Piece

 Hello Refashion Co-op. It is hot, let's make a summer 2 piece outfit from this white floral dress.

Before and after.

This dress was nice and fit OK but it was just too long on me. I could just shorten it but I wanted to make a 2 piece outfit.

I cut t he dress in 2 pieces and hemmed the top. 

I made a simple elastic waistband.

I made the waistband the same way Saga showed us on this blog.

Happy Warm Sunshine Dress

 Hello Refashion Co-op. It is August and that means warm (HOT!) sunny weather. When I saw this dress at a swap I thought it would make a great summer dress because it was linen. Linen is so nice in the heat. I also thought it would make a great refashion because it was so plain. It was like a blank canvas.

Before and after.

I suspended the dress on a hanger and let it sit in the dye. I moved it up and let is sit longer. I did not stir the dress as it sat.I left it alone. That gave me a lot of variation in the end color.

I gave it a new hem so it was about 6 inches shorter.

I loved the yellow. It seemed so happy. For more pictures and details check my blog.
