Tablecloth to Skirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. I wanted to make a circle skirt from this round tablecloth. It was so easy and fast.

Before and after.

I cut a circle in the center of the tablecloth. I tried to make this hole in the exact center so that the skirt would be even all around.

I made an elastic waistband and attached it to the skirt.

This only took about half an hour to finish. Go get a tablecloth! You're going to love this. For more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Dress to Tie-Front Top

Hello Refashion Co-op. I can't wait for spring to arrive. I want warm weather and floral fabric. I can't control the weather but I can choose my fabric. I loved the floral linen of this dress.

Before and after.

I used the skirt of this dress for a pillow because I wanted floral bedding. That means I only had the top of the dress.

I removed the nylon lining from the top.

I also removed the zipper that was in the back of the dress.

I hemmed all the cut edges. And added ties where the zipper was.

I wore it backwards with the ties in front. Thanks for reading along, for more details go to I Can Work With That.

Low-rise Pants to Cargo Skirt

Hello Refashion Co-op. I saw a cargo skirt at a shop and was inspired to make one. I started with a pair of linen pants.

Before and after.

The first thing I did was repair the front where the seam had come apart.

I cut the jeans open in the center seam.

I pinned them together to make skirt shape. I sewed all the way up the back to remove that curved center seam.

I made the waist smaller by cutting the side seam open and pulling the back section over the front.

I used a zigzag stitch to cover that cut edge. This skirt was getting a very utilitarian look and I was loving it. I thought this would be great for hiking.

You know what else is great for hiking? Pockets. I used the bottom of the pant legs to make 2 pockets.

I hemmed the skirt to my chosen length and now it has plenty of pockets for hiking snacks. For more pictures and how-to details go to I Can Work With That.

Mumsy cardigan upcycle with jeans

Hi everyone, hope you're into another refashion with jeans... because I can never get enough of jeans. And since I know jeans are one of the most polluting fabrics, I feel morally obliged to make good use of it. So here it goes...

Not long after I'd purchased this cardigan (fell in love with the color, but that wasn't enough...) I knew it wasn't the garment I would enjoy for years to come. It didn't suit me after all, it made me look a bit older, and that's never a good sign. I felt it deserved a rejuvenation, which I hope succeeded by shorten the length and adding details in jeans.

I started with cutting off the sleeves and the bottom ribbing (or border? just spent 10 minutes trying to find the correct English word, so correct me if I'm wrong:)).

Sorry, you have to go, you're making it too old....

I added a jeans band instead, but that didn't work out at first. The jeans was to heavy, and the fabric wasn't cut on the bias, so there was no stretch and it stood out. I tried to solve it by sewing along the edge with elastic thread (wound up on the bobbin). That was already an improvement!

By way of 'lessons learned', I cut the fabric for the band  the armhole on the bias, that made all the difference!

Then I covered some really ugly buttons with jeans fabric to replace the fussy pearly buttons.

In the end I still wasn't quite satisfied with the jeans band at the bottom. So I opened the seams and pulled some elastic through the tunnel for some extra gathering.

I really liked how the buttons turned out!

I had fun with this upcycle, but to be honest, I have been having difficulties lately to find inspiration for new ideas to show you. I've finished at least 63 projects in the last couple of years (you can find some of them here and all projects can be found on my blog), and I had fun with all of them, but sometimes I feel I'm repeating myself. Don't get me wrong, I will never stop refasioning or upcycling my clothes, I'm just not sure if I have new ideas to inspire you guys with.

So what do you think?

So, I have a question for you, dear co-refashionista's: are there ideas or projects you would like to share yourself on this blog? Or are there any ideas you would like to see worked out on Refashion Co-op? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments (also if you agree I'm repeating myself:)). Making 2 Tone Jeans

Hello Refashion Co-op. I have been wanting some jeans with 2 colors or 2 tones. I had a lot of fun when I put them together this week.

Black and blue.

These jeans were similar in size and fit. That helped me put them together easily.

I cut the jeans apart so that each leg was separate and the fronts and backs were separate.

I put them back together and swapped some of the parts so that each pair was blue and black.

I even swapped the back pockets and some of the belt loops.

This was a fun project. For more pictures and how-to details go to I Can Work With That.
