Ruffle Blouse Refashion Part 1

Morning! Ok I have another refashion. As you can probably see I have been posting a lot of dresses, I meant for them to be finished for the 80 dresses challenge but that's when the peak of my back pain was occurring. So lots of dress refashions!

To begin I had found this white flowy top at goodwill for about $3 I thought it had lots of potential even though it was a bit too large.

And it had a few stains that would not come out. I opted to dye it but.... it's 100% polyester. Polyester doesn't dye with most avaialable dyes. I did find something that would called iDye and it was available on Dharma Trading Co's webpage. The only downfall of this dye was there weren't many color choices. Most are primary colors. I opted for black. It wasn't too hard to work with but you do need to turn on the hood on your stove when dying with iDye b/c it stinks!!! Surprisingly it dyed it BLACK, I would have even been happy with gray.

Next was what to do with it. I removed the bottom flounce since it did nothing for my figure and emphasized the wrong area of my body (part 2 of this refashion is still in the works!) Decided to try and make it another dress. LOL yes really. I decided to see if I could try another elastic band dress, just like my patriotic refashion. The denim doesn't flow much so I wanted to see if I could make a not-so a-line skirt. I repeated exactly what I did for the skirt and elastic. I opted for a raspberry pink color fabric, again going through all of my hordes of fabric I felt like pink! I had to add a few darts to make the top fit more to my body and more at my waist. My other dress sat more near the hips.

Here's the other version of my patriotic dress. :)

For some reason I could not get a good picture of this top and dress. Every other refashion I did the came took a great picture. I wore it to work already and surprisingly got a lot of compliments. Part 2 of this blouse is still in the refashion works as I used it for another project. Stay tuned!!!

More on my blog, with a few more pictures of the stains click here. Thanks for reading!! :)

XOXOXO,

  1. Oh well done Lauren on finding natural dyes, despite the smell! Look forward to seeing more of your Part 2 blouse refashion
