I found this dress in a thrift shop. Very nice thin fabric and I loved the maxi length. But I didn't like the design of the bodice, it made it look like at slip.
So I did a classic refashion and transformed the dress into a skirt. I kept the bottom part of the left side zipper and did a... (ehh, don't know the English word for that) non-stretchy waistband (?).
I cut off the ribbon and ties from the bottom edge of the bodice, and sewed them onto the waist of the dress. I quite like how that turned out.
I made (ehh.....I really need to expand my English sewing term vocabulary)... anyway, two long and two short of these in the back of the skirt. They are straigt, it is just the camera angle.
Totally my new favourite summer clothing item.

A little extra. It is a non-clothing related refashion, but I am so pleased with how it turned out.
I transformed my son's baby matress, that he no longer uses, into a headboard. The matress is 120 cm long, and my bed is 140 cm wide, so it was perfect in size. I made the cover of curdoroy.

If the ties actually cinch up the waist to make it tighter, I would call that a drawstring waist. But I think the ties are just decorative, so I'm not really sure the proper term either.
The long vertical lines of stitching used to take in a bit of fabric to fit your curves are called darts.

The ties can chinch the waist, but are mostly decorative.
The Danish term rougly translates to "firm waistband" (a opposed to elastic waistband).
