Double-Layer Barn Skirt

I found about three yards of Robert Kaufman's Barn Dandys fabric at a thrift store in Virginia over Christmas; I've been hanging onto it, waiting for the right project. I think this is it! The bottom layer of the skirt is from a huge bag of thrifted fabric I procured from a local thrift store in the fall. Even the bias tape around each layer is thrifted (from a similar bag of fabric). I love how the layers are similar colors but are completely different patterns.

It's for my niece's 6th birthday, and I think it's perfect for her. I crocheted the matching hair flowers from scraps of cotton yarn. A lovely, new-from-old ensemble for an Earth Week birthday!

Ooooh .... what a lucky 6 year old! That bias trim really adds something, and the stripes make a lovely under layer. With matching hair flowers, no less! Lovely.

Adorable! I love making kids' clothes. They can get away with so much more when it comes to colors and prints.
