The Marie-Antoinette Muumuu

This dress is made of some cotton I picked up for 1€20 the same day I fell into my vat of mystery tweed in the op-shop.

I made a few customary modifications to the 60'S pattern, the main one being that instead of gathering, I made pleats because the fabric has a certain French Marie-Antoinette vibe that was screaming "please, pleat me", but also, because I absolutely love Watteau pleats. I want Watteau pleats ever since I took a costume history class in college and I want them even more since I saw Fanny Ardant turn in her Franca Squarciapino designed purple coat in the movie Colonel Chabert. Now that was an exit!
In fact, I will make this dress again and will make the pleats historically accurate so the back looks more like Petit Main Sauvage's Watteau
Everybody should be able to make a grand exit once in their lifetime.

How like my mother you look. The same smile. It is amazing. Good dress too. Cherrie

The dress is great on you, but I also have to say that I really love the digger on which you're posed! Super photo all round.

Lovely! I agree, changing gathers to pleats was a good decision for this pattern. Looks like a perfect summer piece! And a fabulous contribution towards our "80 Dresses" challenge!
