My daughter seems to always be growing and at age 5 she is the height of many 6 or 7 year olds (my husband and I are both quite tall, so this is not surprising). She outgrows clothes incredibly quickly and my new strategy for extending the life of dresses is to turn them into skirts and skorts. I've posted two tutorials about this over on my blog. This one is on the two skirts above; this one is on how I turned the second skirt (the floral patterned one) into a skort.
I admit, both projects are very basic - you wouldn't think you'd need a tutorial for them. But for new sewists (like me), I think any explanation is helpful, especially with pictures.

My mum used to do this to my dresses when I outgrew them as a child. Such a great way to extend the life of clothes!
