My sons seem to share my passion for coming up with design ideas for refashioning things - they both requested refashions for Christmas; one of the requests was actually for a girlfriend, and my son designed it himself.
My older son went out to the thrift shop and found a jean jacket in just the right size - Score #1.
I went to Joanns with a 40% off coupon and bought the perfect red/black plaid fabric, after sending him picture mails so he could choose while over at her house (she was totally unsuspecting - LOL) - Score #2.
BEFORE: thrift store jacket and plaid flannel fabric |
I received an AWESOME coupon via email from the Embroidery Library, where I was able to buy five embroidery files for $5.00 - SCORE # 3! She loves Japanese themed things, as well as my Sewing Assistant (named Neko, which is Japanese for "cat"), so these were the perfect embroideries to customize her jacket:
Maneki Neko with sushi, and a custom designed Yin Yang with paw prints! |
I worked on the jacket for two days before Christmas, and finally finished it off before leaving for Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve (whew - not much time to spare)!
Christmas day, and one very happy girlfriend:
Merry Refashioning! :)

This is fantastic, the whole situation. Your sons requesting it, the girlfriend loved it! I'm trying to develop my refashioning skills, so that I can rework op shop items.
