I have had this skirt sitting in a pile of unwearable
clothes forever. I mean, at LEAST fifteen years. I have brought it with me on
more than one move to a new home. I just couldn’t let it go – I loved the print
and the red and gray color combination. However, I couldn’t wear it, as it was
too big on me and had a broken zipper. So I finally got around to refashioning
it.
I decided to make it into a dress instead of a skirt. I knew
that if I closed the button at the top of the side zipper, I could use that as
an armhole. I tried a couple different configurations of one-sleeved, asymmetrical
dresses, but I didn't like the way the dress was hanging. I needed another
armhole, so I opened the seam opposite the zipper about 8 inches. I stitched around
the new armhole and added a matching button on the top. Finally, I closed up
the slit in the side of the former skirt.
I loved the way it draped at the neckline, but the dress was
too baggy in the waist. A wide, black belt solved that problem. Now, I can actually wear this. I am so glad I
hung on to it so long!
Thanks for reading!

Love your stance! Great project too.
I agree with you that the neckline drape looks great! It makes a lovely dress.

I like your defiant pose. The skirt had gotten the better of you for 15 years and finally you have shown it who is boss. Great refashion.
