My Downhome Funky Dress

Yep. That's what I had to call it, the poor old thing.  This is one of those pieces I kept working on and saying it was a flop, stopping, and then giving it another go, ad nauseum.  Well, the other day I went at it and didn't stop until I declared it was finished and boy was it funky:
artwork by Elisabeth Lecourt - NOT THE ACTUAL ITEM
It started out as a plain store-bought linen shift with short sleeves.  Fast forward and it was now too small and too short.

I added some length by taking the hem down and sewing a piece of crocheted lace to the bottom - just enough to do the job.
Lace hem, plus...

I added some floral print linen from my fabric stash for pocket trim and side inserts.
pleated at top to take in excess

I ended up removing the sleeves after trying lots of different ways to keep them with no success.
finished sleeveless dress with...

A downhome funky homemade necklace to go with it.
old chain necklace, felt trims, & broken bits of jewelry

I made it out of a bunch 'o junk that I painted with nail polish to boot.
brooch painted with dif nail polishes

You can see me wearing it all at Project Minima, here.  And thanks for looking.
