In my next button-up shirt alteration experiment, I turned this big, blue, button-up blouse into a top-notch top!
I saw a top recently on Pinterest that looked like a men's dress shirt that had been buttoned up the back to make it fit a woman. This clearly wasn't a DIY though since the pin linked back to Banana Republic's site (though the top in question was no longer in the catalog apparently). I thought I could recreate this with one of my old too-large shirts. I added buttons along one of the darts in the back and button loops to the other dart. I also shortened the sleeves. Now my shirt fits much better and has an interesting design element on the back.
Check out my blog, CarissaKnits, for more details. And I'll be back soon with my next experimentation in alteration.

This rocks so much!!! I've pinned the very top your talking about! I love your interpretation.
Wow what a difference. It looks really cool. Kind of like a modern take on a corset.
I like the corset-like look of the back of the shirt now - looks fab.
