Hibiscus Skirt

Greetings fellow refashionistas.  I am so happy to be back on Refashion Coop.  This spring I scoured thrift stores for knit t-shirts so that I could make one of a kind skirts, dresses, and shirts for craft shows, gifts, and of course myself.  I love making upcycled clothing and clothes from new fabric too (prefer the upcycling).  I just think it is so cool to take something destined for the trash and turn it into something beautiful, hip, funky,  functional or whatever vibe you are trying to achieve.

This skirt was made using the LilyGiggle pattern Ring of Ruffles.  There is an underskirt that the ruffled fabric is attached to.  I made this skirt a few times and each time I give it a different detail (flower with button -as seen here, rolled hem finish, ending the ruffles 3/4 of the way down, tighter or looser gathers, etc.) This skirt is very straight forward.  I needed the pattern mostly for the various sizing and not so much for the directions.  It reminds me of hibiscus flowers and Hawaii.  This skirt was given to the granddaughter of my mother's friend and she just loves it.  I wish I could get a pic of her in it.  Check out the full pattern collection, the designer Beth has some really cute stuff and she encourages "breathing new life into unwanted fabrics..."
