REFASHION: jumping on the kimono bandwagon

So, this is me jumping on the kimono top bandwagon. Lately, I have been wearing dresses with lightweight cardigans because the weather has been a little cooler. What happens when the sun starts shining brightly and I still prefer to have a simple cover-up? I don't want to be the idiot wearing a cardigan during the summer. So what's a girl to do? Create a kimono top out of a $2 scarf found at my local consignment store.

I'm at a crossroads -- should I add more black bias tape around the neckline and opening or complete a simple rolled hem? I'm so torn! Suggestions would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

I love the black trim. And the whole kimono idea in general. Very pretty.

Concerning your 'torn-ament': How does your skin tone in general work with black?
Especially closer to your face?
I think, I'd it depending on those facts.
Otherwise: good idea with the 'el cheapo scarf' !

I'm leaning toward adding black bias tape because it'll be so much easier. The fabric is gauzy and thin, and a ton of swear words will be said out loud if I try the rolled hem. Thanks for your suggestions, Chickie and LG! Appreciate it so much!

I know what you mean about Kimonos, everyone is making them.

I kind of like it just as it is, but totally get wanting to avoid a rolled hem...hmm, I think that lining the neck and arms with the bias would be good overall: your sanity, giving it a more completed look, etc.

When I refashioned a blouse into a kimono jacket, I used a discarded offcut from a soft synthetic skirt lining to go up and down the front/back neck. It was slightly stretchy so worked like a bias tape, and I applied it in the same way and pressed it flattish. Worked a treat.
