Remake from dress to top

A couple of weeks ago I went to a cloths swap and I have already begun to alter some of the pieces. The dark blue dress was meant to become a long sleeve top but there was simple not enough material. So it is now short sleeved.

 Since there was not enough length I had to add a band at the bottom and made a sash at the side

Addicted to Stripes

I worked on a couple of pretty quick dress refashions this past week/weekend...striped dresses!!! I thrifted both just recently, this first one being a maternity dress. 

I took in the overall size from armpit to hem, then to give it a bit of definition at the waist, I created a pleated gather at each side...wanna see more details? Head over here.

This next dress was bleach-spotted and had funky armpit stains. So sleeveless was a must!

I also reworked the neckline and bodice to create this scooped v that allows me to wear the dress frontwards or backwards! Funky stains gone, easy summer midi is here to stay :) Want to see more of the process? Same link as above!

Time to go on a thrifting hiatus and save up some pennies...but I've got an ample stash to shop, so here's to more sewing and less buying!

Dress to Skirt Refash

I really had no vision for this dress when I picked it up for .50 cents. Was I going to keep it a dress? A shirt? Maybe a skirt? At the time I had no idea. 

Wowza this is a hot mess!

The husband and I had plans to go to the movies with some friends this weekend and you guessed it...I needed something to wear! This is when I've decided this dress would be best suited as a skirt! 

I began by using my seam ripper to remove the elastic from the middle of the dress.

Then I sewed a new casing for some new elastic, and threaded it through. This dress also came with a belt which I used but made a new hole to make it fit.
Then I was ready for our movie double date!

The feature.... 

TITANIC! 

We went to a favorite theatre of mine The Redford Theatre which plays all old films! They play anything from old classics like Gone With The Wind to new classics like Titanic.

  

  

They also have an organist that plays 30 minutes before the feature, which is exctally what they did back in the 1920s!

Old shirt to new dress!

I took an old purple shirt of mine.  (I'm sorry, no before photo, just imagine it this time!) The neckline was all worn out, but there was some cute embroidery and lots of good parts left.

I refashioned it into part of a dress for my little girl!

A new hem

Hello again, Refashionistas! I found this beautiful red dress at a local thrift shop for a meager .50 cents! How could I pass it up???

To update this, I cut 13" off the bottom

And finished the raw edge:

Just like that, I have a "new" dress!

Not too shabs for .50 cents :)
