Hello! (plus easy scrap-bustin' scarf)

Hi Refashionistas! My name is Zoe, I blog at 'So, Zo... What do you know?'. I'm currently seeking crafty peops to join me in the imminent Me-Made-March '11 challenge, so if you feel you could use a bit of a kick up the bum to get some of your projects finished and/or the push to actually wear your creations, maybe this challenge is for you!

Anywho, I wanted to share with you a refashion idea that I found and tested out over a year ago (originally posted here) but that I feel fits well with the ethos of the Refashion Co-op. I cannot take the credit for the idea, it orginally came from here, but as I haven't seen many of these scarves around blog-land, it's an idea that could use a bit of proliferation! They are super-easy and very quick-to-make and can be as plain or colourful as you wish.

I used the leftover scraps of cut-and-sew knit fabric, but it would be equally effective if you used a jumper that you had accidentally felted in the wash (I'm SO good at doing that!) or a jumper that has become lunch to a naughty moth! Just cut a pile of different sized circles in your chosen knitwear; this is the most time consuming bit but can be done in front of the TV! Select a wide zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine. Start sewing at the edge of a circle and down the centre, before you get to the other edge place another circle under the sewing machine foot so the two circles overlap. Keep adding circles as you go, sewing in one continuous straight line. When all the circles are attached in a chain, it's done!

The single colour version I made (pictured above) looks pretty graphic against a contrast garment, but these scarves could also look cute when made from a mixture of colours/patterns. It's also a nice way to keep on using a garment that has out-grown its use in its original form. It's also a great way to make a scarf if, like me, you haven't gotten round to figureing out how to knit!

I love being reminded of the projects I want to try. I have reclaimed felt put away and this project is a must... off to check out your Made in March Challenge...

I was wondering how long it would be before I saw you here, since you're the person I learned about this site from in the first place!

Cute scarf, though I'd have to think of some alternate materials if I were to try it myself, since I have a major wool sensitivity.

And I'm considering MMM! Trying to figure out if I have enough cooler weather stuff to make it work. :)

I gave myself a similar challenge last month to yours...i wore something everyday that i had completely made myself or refashioned and called it "hulimade month" =)

Welcome Zoe!!! We are excited to have you here with us. I love this idea for scraps and to use up accidentally felted "jumper"s as you call them =). Such a clever solution for those pesky odd pieces lying around ... and a great way to help an outfit really pop. Can't wait to see this show up in MMM!

Thank you for coming on over Zoe. I love the scarf. I have loads of little remnants of sweaters from my yarn production and this may be an idea for using them.
I will definitely be following MMM even though I don't think I have enough refashions to pledge myself. But I hope to make loads here in March for my craft holiday to France in April. So maybe I will be up for a Me-Made-May if there is going to be one of those. Here's to hoping!
