Pink shirts project

Earlier this week, I mentioned that my first refashioning project was going to be doing over this men's Liberty print shirt.

However, a couple things happened to change my mind, as I recount on my blog. To make a long story short, I decided to do over these two garments first and so my pink shirts project was born.

Left: The shirt I'm transforming into a dress for my daughter
Right: My husband's old shirt, which I'm transforming into a blouse for me, along the lines of this one

I worked on my daughter's dress tonight and this is where I'm at:

I probably have enough scraps left from the sleeves to make thin straps, but I think that dress is going to need a lining (it's a tiny bit see-through in sunlight) and I thought that I might get a pale, pretty floral print and could then use the same fabric for the straps. But I'm not sure.

Your thoughts? Advice? And I'd also really appreciate any links or tips on making a lining as I've never done one.

Finally, here's where I'm at with my own shirt-to-blouse project...

More to come soon!

I like that dress for your daughter. As for how to do a lining, I guess you can just trace the shape of the dress you have made, and cut out any cotton/cotton poly blend fabric in a light colour and sew it to the top of the dress band. Just make the lining a bit shorter than the dress. Looking forward to seeing the end result!

Lovely refashion thus far!

Hm ... I've always winged the lining part of it too, but usually try to get it to the same shape/size as the shell fabric. If you're worried about lining it, you could also try dyeing it?

Look forward to the results!

Thanks! I scored an ecru pillowcase on sale this week and also a fantastic Liberty print (floral) pillowcase and am going to use the ecru one for the slip and the print one for trim on both shirts. Going to have fun this weekend!

I love your daughters dress. I love the style and think with straps it'd be a cute adult smock top x
