This was another super simple restyle (if you can even call it that) of a lovely vintage Elsie Whiteley skirt. In case you haven't heard of Elsie whiteley before, she ran her own design and manufacturing business in the UK from the 50's to the 70's and was best known for her beautiful blouses. I've come across a few examples in my time, especially with the pussy bow detail. They always drape beautifully and are made from high quality, gorgeously tactile fabrics. This skirt was no exception from that perspective. It's a quality lightweight wool with a fab houndstooth pattern. Only problem was, it had one foot firmly in frumpland because of the length. No matter. 20 mins later I had a fab new skirt. Not really blogworthy in itself, except I had a massive loop of fabric left over....
Then I played around some more. With a bit of fashion tape, this could work too (albeit not on me!)...
And I quite like the idea of a cumberbund too...
I got to thinking that this loop of fabric could be pretty darn versatile, if only I had the time to play around with it a bit more, I'm sure I could figure out some more ways to wear it. How about you?? Know any ingenious ways of wearing a simple length of fabric like this?? I'd love to hear from you, especially if you know of any decent sites or articles about this sort of thing...
Hope this finds you well and enjoying your weekend. ;)

I don't know if I could suggest any more garments than you've already suggested, but I love it as a snood/scarf!

That is so cool! I've been meaning to make a circle scarf/ snood but it hasn't happened yet because I haven't found the appropriate fabric... It better happen soon, since spring will make snoods superfluous in a while.

Very cute skirt! I like the belt/cumberbund idea!
I saw an almost identical skirt while thrifiting this weekend and did not scoop it up because it was a few sizes too large and I think I need to go back and get it now! Yours is super cute!
Ooooh ... beautiful find, beautiful new skirt!
I think the halter top is a cute idea, and really unusual in houndstooth. I wonder if you could plop it on over a black/solid dress to give the appearance of a vest? Or over a tee and with a skirt? Or maybe I need to stop telling other people what to do and do it myself!
Thanks for the inspiration!

love it :)

Love the fabric! I think the leftover piece makes a great snood. A sort of stylish variation on those Mideast style b&w or b&w + red scarfs people wear.
I like to just wrap my head in colourful textiles, just circle the head a couple of times, rough like, and tuck the ends in. A big piece of fabric is nice when it's cold outside, a lightweight piece if I'm going out :)
