Hi Everyone!
.Here I am again! I am taking a break from my series for a week or two while I wrestle part 5 into submission on my dress form. The two pictures below are my latest transformation ready for your comments! I got the idea from one of my Pinterest pictures from Anthropologie. You can see the picture below. What an easy way this was to give a boring t-shirt a brand new look!

One could make so many different combinations of this look. With all of the t-shirts I have grown out of (AHEM!) or grown tired of (BETTER!) I have a lot to work with in my own closet without thrifting for the shirt.
Here is the tutorial:

1) I purchased a yard of fabric to match with a white and navy stripe "Old Navy" T. The first thing I did was to make a center back pleat with a 1" depth on each side. I was very careful to make sure the pattern matched from side to side as I did it.

2) Next, I unpicked the side seams and cut out the back of the t-shirt just below the armholes. I left a 1 " seam allowance as I did this. (BUT I FORGOT TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS STEP!)

3) While on the form, I pinned the panel on the back of the t-shirt
Then down the sideseams.

4) At this point, I laid it down to make sure everything matched up properly. I sewed across the back first and then down the side seams. This way you can make perfect corners under the arms.

Great idea to give me wwe life to a plain tee. Putting this at the top of my refashion list.
wow. I love this better than just inserts in the side seam which shriek that the original was too small.
I guess this could be done with woven fabrics as well as knits.

Yes! I have this same top pinned in my refashion ideas board and have a blue and white striped tee set aside for the project...thanks for the kick in the rear to get it done, because now I see just how perfect it will be and need to get it done :) This turned out so great and it looks awesome on you...thanks for your process as well...unfortunately, mine is a thinner material that has twisted just a bit so I won't be able to simply open up the side seams. Oh, well. Lovely!

Is the material you have used is it cotton or is it a t-shirt knit?
I would also like to know what fabric you used, another knit or a woven? I see where this question has been posed at least twice by other people so I'm not the only one wondering. I'm thinking it could be a woven as long as the care is the same. If I were using new fabric for this, I'd be sure to pre-wash before I stitched it together to make sure the new back didn't shrink. However, I believe I may try this idea with TWO old shirts-one t shirt, one blouse or man's shirt.
I have come to think the material on the back is cotton but not sure. If anyone knows please help us!
Looking to use this to ummm "widen" the t shirt that has "grown" to small. Also found a way to small t shirt at thrift store with a great saying on the front and perfect and going to "remake" it this way to fit, AWESOME!
Love this idea to 'repurpose' t-shirts that have shrunk in the dryer! Do you think it would be possible to change the whole back side?
