So I'm trying my hand at repairing/refreshing old boots. One pair of mid-calf boots was peeling and flaking too much to be worn, so I turned them into booties. The other pair of thigh-high fabric boots was just too big and bulgy to look good.
Here's the first refashion. Basically it was as simple as cutting off the top and folding over the edge to get rid of the worst of the damaged parts.
Before
After
The second pair of boots was just too roomy for my legs, and the zipper was unreasonably long, causing that unsightly zipper bulge that I'm sure you're familiar with.
I shortened the zipper and sewed up the side seam for a much more streamlined fit.
Before
After
It was more streamlined, but still not streamlined enough, as it kept sliding down my leg!
I've been trying out different ways to keep boots and socks from sliding down, and my most recent trick is to safety-pin a rubber band to the inside of the boot (right at the top of the calf seems to work well) so that it hugs the back of your leg when you are wearing the boots. I think it really does help!
For more details and a few more pictures, read about these two refashions on my blog!

I love how the first pair came out. I think I just may try this.
Very inspiring refashions (eyeing my unsuspecting boots...)

Love the new short boots. And the zipper fix was very smart.

Great job on the boots! I did something very similar to your first set once. It turned out okay, but shoes can be daunting!
