Free the shoulder

As a broad-shouldered woman who has had trouble fitting into many a top, I've really fallen in love with the open shoulder ("cold shoulder") trend.

It has enabled me to wear shirts that are actually fitted around the torso without straining at the top of the arms!

In honor of feeling free like a bird, I found the perfect bird-themed dress to open up at the shoulders (OK, actually it was coincidence that it had a bird print, but what a nice coincidence it was!).

It was exactly the opposite of fitted at the torso—when I first tried it on, I felt it looked more like a baggy nightgown than a dress.

Before

I seam-ripped out most of the shoulder seams, trimmed a few inches off the top of the sleeve, and sewed it back up again. So easy-peasy I forgot to take pictures!

I feel like cutting out the shoulders not only made this dress fit me more comfortably, but it also gave it a bit of glam factor, over its former sack-like appearance.

After

This is my second cold-shoulder refashion (the first being my "French Maid" blouse) and I'm totally in love. I want to make a cold-shoulder everything! Here's hoping the look will stay stylish for a few more years at least!
