Musty Pickles Dress

A little while ago I picked up a lace tablecloth at Goodwill, thinking it would make an interesting dress for my granddaughter. I was so excited about how soft it was, and the vintage look and color, that I didn't SMELL it first. Whew! It had a definite musty smell. I posted about having trouble getting rid of the smell and the response was great in the comment section! If you have had similar troubles with trying to eliminate smells in your resale finds, check out this post for some great advice.

After the nasty smell was gone, I did indeed make a sweet little dress to take to my granddaughter on our visit. It's a tad too big--one of the pitfalls of sewing for someone long distance--but it will soon fit better. Babies do have a way of growing quickly! You can read more about this project here.

From functional to sweet.....this is a great re-use of a lace tablecloth.

Absolutely adorable!! Thanks for sharing your link to tips on removing musty smells. I usually wash with bi-carb soda, vinegar and eucalyptus oil to remove that vinegary smell. Usually works once its been hung outside to dry!

I read your original post over on your blog and am so glad to hear that you were able to get the musty smell out. What a beautiful dress you made. Amazing how an outdated curtain can be made over into a fabulous outfit.
