Long blouse turned into modern blouse jacket

Hi everyone! A few months ago I visited a nice second hand store and fell for the dark blue, almost purple, colour of the print. I didn't like the length though. It gave me 'housekeeping' vibes and, in combination with the print, reminded me of the blouses and aprons housewives wore in the 60s and 70s to keep their clothes clean. But since I liked the colour, I decided to buy it to turn it into something more modern and more 'me'.

When I started this refashion the thought of a blouse jacked immediately came to me. It would be fun to wear and layers are always practical in summer, especially when you easily get cold or warm, like me.

The blouse came with an extra perk: it had pockets! And fortunately, I could keep the pockets (yay) and still cut of enough of the length.

The next steps didn't seem like rocket science... I serged the cut edges, folded it and created a tunnel for a cord to pull through. I made the cord out of the original seam. But then, when I thought I was finished.... oops, how could I have missed it?

Oops....

As you can see, the new fastening with tunnel and cord made it impossible for the button band to close how it was supposed to! It felt like such a beginner's mistake! Well, I definitely had to fix that...

I cut just before the button band, folded back the edges with some glue and gave it a few stitches, just to be sure. Then I folded back the end of the button band and stitched. It was the easy way out, I admit, but it worked:).

Pants to Jacket

Hello Refashion Co-op. I found some pretty light-weight summer pants but they had a terrible nylon lining inside. I think nylon is hot and itchy so I did not want to wear the pants. I love the lace trim so I wanted to make them into a little jacket.

Before and after.

I took the pants apart to remove the lining and then I put them back together.

The jacket was going to be a bit shapeless but the drape of the fabric will give it shape. That pretty lace would be at the hemline of the jacket.

The jacket is basically a rectangle with armholes.

The jacket is a nice light layer. Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and how-to details go to I Can Work With That.

Dress to Shirt & Shorts

Hello Refashion Co-op. I wanted to turn this dress into a shirt and shorts matching set. I loved the stripes but did not love the shapeless dress.

Before and after.

I cut the top of the dress off. I left the drawstring attached to the shirt.

I used a pattern to cut out the shorts pieces and made an elastic waistband.

I liked this outfit a lot. I thought it looked like chic pajamas. Thanks for reading along, for more details and pictures go to I Can Work With That.

Bassinet Sheets to Pajamas

Hello Refashion Co-op. I was given these adorable cotton knit bassinet sheets (Made by Poppi and Max) and I used the to make some fun pajamas.

I really needed some summer pajamas.

I cut all the elastic off the edges of the sheets and tried to plan what I wanted to do with each piece.

I used the Luna Tank Pattern from Helen's Closet Patterns. I wanted tank tops because I am a hot sleeper. Te pattern also worked well with the small pieces of fabric. I could use one bassinet sheet for the front of the tank top and one for the back.

I made the shorts up as I went along.

I love them all. They are soft and cozy. These giraffe pajamas are my favorites though. Thanks for reading along, for more pictures and details go to I Can Work With That.

Poofy Dress Week #3-Adding Sleeves

Hello Refashion Co-op. I have been loving all the loose, puffy dresses I have seen online lately. This is my latest favorite.

Before the dress was a bit too long and I wasn't loving the shoulder straps.

I removed the lowest tiers of the dress. That made it shorter and gave me some extra fabric.

I used that fabric to make sleeves. Big puffy sleeves!
