Refashioned Refashion Cowl Neck Scarf

Hello Refashioners!

This post comes from the question of what to do when a refashion goes wrong...

2 of my first refashions were done in order to try and save some of my hubby's shirts that I
love - super soft cotton and some awesome vintage/geeky images. I tried to make them both into tops but that didn't work. The brown one was a victim of my lack of realizing I needed more room in the bust area. This was so bad it even looked skimpy as a bathing suit cover. The second fell victim to a side knot tshirt refashion that just didn't turn out right - it was too baggy and I cut it too short (I'm only 5 foot with the torso of a 4'8" woman so the shorter a shirt gets on me, the worse I look). I tried to salvage purple one into a big baggy purse (inspired by a post by refashionista about converting tees to grocery bags) but the fabric was so stretch it wasn't going to hold much before giving out.

So what do so with these fantastically soft, completely ruined tshirts... make them into scarves! I've always loved cowl neck scarves but have never been able to find any for a reasonable price
that I am willing to pay. So, I first chopped off my straps from each tshirt and the bottom seam from the purple shirt. I loved the little nintendo graphic on the brown tshirt so I managed to salvage him for a later project. I then cut each shirt into one continuous strip of fabric. I only had time to finish one scarf in my allocated "craftiness time" so I focused on the brown one. I ruffled the entire strip of fabric using the good ol' basting stitch and pull method, went back over with a permanent stitch, and sewed the 2 ends together.

VOILA! A great ruffled cowl neck scarf for the coming fall! Please ignore the horrendous looking picture - it was a long hot day out with the hubby shopping and building ikea stuff.

Much love,
Heather

5 Minute Skirt Refashion

Hello all!

I did a quick refashion for a 4th of July weekend outfit. I got the original dress (below) 2 years ago from Old Navy for a trip to Hawaii. It was marked down 50% because of a small (easily mend-able) hole at the elastic waistline. I was never overly fond of the way it looked on me - Strapless doesn't look that great usually and it had a muumuu-esque feel... BUT I loved the color and the pattern (plus the fabric is super soft) so I figured I'd make something from it that I could wear all the time and be super comfy in.
This was a very easy refashion. First, I cut the top off at the elastic waist line. Then I tried it on, marked where I wanted it to hit on my legs and cut (the zigzags gave a great guide for a straight line). I left the hem raw on the bottom (mainly because I ran out of matching thread... but if anyone asks it was on purpose ;-) ). AND Voila! Perfect comfy skirt for a family bbq!
Hope everyone had a great 4th!! Much love!

Help the "Girls" out!

Hello all-

I am new to the Refashion movement, but very very excited to get my hands dirty! I've made a few attempts at some refashions, some ending somewhat decent (posts to come), and some ending very very tragically. My biggest issue for my tragedies is when handling the arm holes for my stuff. I'm a bustier gal and it seems, even if I drape it on myself before hand and mark, I wind up with a shirt that looks like something out of a strip club (we're talking without wearing tanks constantly, major side action... maybe even more). I was wondering if you all have any tips of the trade for making sure there is enough coverage in the bust area. I know the easiest way to make sure is using a figure form and I am in desperate need for one but can't get it until Christmas. Any tips on how to do it without one would be a HUGE favor to me and my poor butchered clothing!

Thanks and much love!
