Denim and Ruffles

Found this denim ruffle top dress for a $1 at one of my favorite thrift stores.  The fit was big and the dress was simply too long.  I wasn't really sure what I would do the dress but I knew it definitely had to be modified.

So I decided to change the denim dress into a one shoulder relaxed fit dress.  Started of by removing the elastic waist band. I then sewed up one of the armholes and took in the dress by a few inches.  Moving on to the bottom of the skirt, I made a straight skirt using my measurements.  I attached the top and bottom together at the seams.

I loved the results.  Not bad for a $1 dress.

Crop Top and Skirt Set

I was recently going through my stash of thrifted clothes and came across this 80′s silk dress I picked up a while ago for $1.  I remember being instantly attracted to the fabric, the buttons in the back and the print but definitely not the shape.  But I knew it had a ton of potential.   So when my sister wanted a refashioned outfit, we decided that the dress would make the perfect crop top and skirt set.

Vintage Dress to Shirt DIY

This vintage dress has been sitting in my refashion pile for a while and I finally decided to make some changes to it.  When I purchased it, I was instantly attracted to the vibrant colors and print.  But the dress's shape was all wrong..too large, too boxy, the length was odd, and I simply didn't like it as it.  I thought it would look much better as a modernized shirt.  So I quickly created a refashioned vintage dress to shirt.

I measured and cut 3 inches from both sides of the chest area and 2 inches from the hips.  This prevented the shirt from fitting too snug around the hips and butt area.  Can you say 'curvy girl issues'? I also cut 1 3/4 inches from the sleeves to make them slimmer.  To get the angle in the front and back, I folded the shirt in half and drew a semi-circle, cut, and hemmed.

Voila! It was a very easy refashion.  More details and pictures can be found on my blog, ChiChiLoves
