Blanket Coat Refashion

Happy Holidays!

I recently came across this pattern and thought it would be perfect for a cold weather trip. 

However, I didn't want to pay big bucks for fabric. So...

I found a king-size fleece blanket for $20. 

And made a beautiful winter coat. 

A Refashioned Halloween

 

It was a refashioned Halloween.  This dress shirt became a Pop Art dress.

Pow! Refashion

This is a first for me.  A husband refashion - and a Halloween costume at that!  We've been so busy working on or costumes, that I forgot to take a before photo.  But I think you can imagine the before - plain white button up with a red tie.  I took a sharpie and outlined both the shirt and the tie.  My husband came up with the surprise back.  POW!

I drew it on and colored it with fabric markers.  My pop art dress is in the works, and we plan to paint our faces.  Stay tuned for my dress tutorial and our Halloween make up.

Easy Skirt Refashion

Happy Autumn Season All!  It's not feeling so fallish here in Hawaii, where we've had heat in the 90's, but I'm living vicariously through all of you who are getting to enjoy it.

Anyway....  I have a super easy pencil skirt refashion to share with you.

I found this maxi at a thrift shop for around $2.  As you can see, it's not very flattering - or could it just be my expression? 

A few cuts and stitches later, I have this stylish pencil skirt - which feeds my current polka dot obsession.

Breezy Summer Dress

As summer is winding down, our weather is heating up.  It's been quite hot and humid here in Hawaii.  I'm one of the few lucky ones at our school who gets to work in air conditioning.  It's a privilege that I don't take lightly, and I enjoy it as much as I can because there's no AC in my home.  So, on the weekends, I like to dress in light airy clothing.

Luckily, I stumbled across a vintage 60's dress at Salvation Army a few years ago.  It's been my go-to dress for weekend errands and the beach.

I love this dress so much that I used it as inspiration and a pattern for my latest refashion.  Luckily, I had the perfect Tori Richard dress to work with. Here's a before and after.

Oversized Top Refashion

Aloha!  I hope all of you are having a relaxing, lovely summer. Mine is almost coming to an end.

Refashion Using a Pattern

Happy Summer!  I've been sewing my time away - mainly using patterns and fabric.  However, I recently refashioned a polyester golf shirt using a wonderful and easy pattern.

Anniversary Date Refashion

Aloha!  I'm super excited to share my newest refashion with you.  I plan to wear it on my anniversary date.

Happy, happy Spring!  It's finally here, which means summer is right around the corner!  And what represents summer more than this super bright and cheery Marimekko fabric?

Flirty Animal Print Dress Refashion

Happy New Year! Kung Hee Fat Choy! We're in the midst of celebrating Chinese New Year here in Hawai`i, and although I don't have any horse inspired refashions, I do have a cute animal print redo to share with you.

I found this skirt for free at a clothing swap. After all of the "cute" clothes were taken, I noticed it hanging sadly on the rack. I picked up and held it up to my waist. The owner happened to walk by and claimed that she never would have purchased the skirt had it not been for a salsa class. I decided right then and there to give it a home in my closet.  I loved the fullness of it, and actually wore it several times.

I would not have minded keeping this piece as a full, flowing skirt.  However, I began to see some refashioning potential.  This skirt was destined to become a flirty dress.  After some reconstruction and dye, it was totally transformed.

Velvet Christmas Dress

Happy Holidays!  I hope you are having a stress free and relaxing season.

I'm really excited to share my latest refashion with you.  This out dated dress was a hand-me-down from my mom. I loved the gorgeous green velvet and knew it would be perfect for Christmas.

I decided to use only the sleeveless shell dress and not the jacket. The jacket is now sleeveless (you'll see why in my post), but I hope to refashion it in the near future. Any suggestions?

I cut some length off the bottom of the dress and used this excess fabric to make the sleeves.

I loved how it turned out.

Holiday Peplum

Happy Thursday!  I wanted to share another peplum refashion that I created just in time for the Holidays. My readers helped me decide how to finish off the neckline and suggested that I pair it with a statement necklace.  I love how it turned out!  You can check out the details on my my blog.

DIY Peplum Top

Aloha!  My name is Trish, and I've been blogging at Feeling Kinda Thrifty for about four months now. So far, my posts are mainly about refashioning, but I hope to write more about thrifty finds and other DIY projects.  I must say that Refashioning has become quite an obsession for me.   So, when I got the news about being part of Refashion Co-op, I was ecstatic. 

Although I sometimes pretend that I'm a high fashion designer, I have a day job as an elementary teacher.  I'm also a mother to a rambunctious two-year-old.  On my free time, I love to sew, crochet, shop at thrift stores, and lay on the beach (I'm lucky to live in Hawaii).

For my first post, I've put together a lovely peplum top for you.  However, it didn't start out so lovely...

 

I chopped the bottom off and detached the sleeves.  After altering the top portion on my dress form, I pleated the peplum around the midsection of the top.  Lastly, I sized up the sleeves and reattached them.  This top went from frumpy and outdated to stylish and chic.  More details can be found at my my blog.
