Draping for Inspiration: Shirts

Long time no see Refashion Co-op. I have had no time for any sewing but I have been draping like a champ. I hope these pics are ok to post as they are not actually refashioned garments, but I hope they will provide some inspiration for those of you with time to sew.

Kids Shorts Alteration

Hi Refashion Co-op!

I'm cheating a bit on this one as it's more of an alteration than a re-fashion  - still I think it fits in the ethos of the site and I think some of you will find it useful. Anyway rather than my mum having to but my little bro new shorts, I did some work on his old ones to eak out another years wear out of them..

Military to Mundane -Shirt Refashion

I'm currently working in an information services/shop/admin job which requires me to wear smartish officey type clothing.

Of course, I have nothing really suitable, I've been getting by by alternating two dresses and a skirt and top with various cardigans. Lucky for me people know I'm a charity case and donate their clothes to me. In such a windfall I was given two shirts with some pretty dubious mid 00's styling.

Check out those epaulets - because every woman wants to look like they have big broad shoulders!


Apart from the epaulets, and some weird sleeve rolling up securing strip things the shirt was fine, well apart from the gaping at the bust and the extremely low neckline (for a work garment), apart from these things it was fine, and it was in new condition, still with the tags on.

Unpicked epaulets, sleeve straps

sew up holes, sew up the side of the button band (yay for stretch fabric), sew another button further up the button band.


Now wearable, if a little dull!

Bed-Sheet Refashions

Hi All

Just showing a couple of Sorbetto's I made from bed-sheets agesssssssss ago. The thing I liked most about these tops, is that they didn't look like they were made out of bedsheets!

A Me-Made Re-Made

I made this dress last year

After a year of constant wear it was looking pretty sorry for its self, but I still liked it and liked the fabric. Que some scrapbusting and it was transformed into this dress

The 50p Outfit

First things first, let me apologise for being AWOL for so long, real life has been getting in the way of sewing somewhat, however that has changed recently as I have been made redundant

Obviously unemployment means I need to economise, which conveniently leads me to this skirt I found on sale at a local charity shop for 50p (OK I'm bending the truth a little bit as I found this skirt ages ago when I was employed, I also re-fashioned it ages ago but never blogged it, bad me!)

 This is how the skirt looked when I bought it, the waistline sat super high up on my rib cage and the hem was at my mid calf, soo yeahhhh real attractive!

Here's what it looks like now, with bonus pic of a top made entirely from scraps, more on that in a bit

So here is what i did to the skirt -

Unpicked the zip & rescue waistband button
chopped several inches off the top and bottom of the skirt
sew up old centre back zip opening & unpick side seam
insert zip in newly unpicked side seam (I hate centre back zips on skirts)
create new waistband facing from cut off fabric
sew hem
add hook & eye to top of zip (grudgingly)
profit!

On to the top! which I have no further full photo's of ... oops...

anyway the pattern is Simplicity 2599 which I think everyone and their dog has made. It went together easily and I will probably make a couple more as it's a good wardrobe basic.

I made this top entirely out of scraps, the blue is from the skirt above, the yellow is from the 1994 dress and the white is the remnants of some cotton poplin that I've been using for lining/underlining

considering I 'eyeballed' rather than measured the fabric I was pretty pleased when everything lined up!





also, should I ever have my own country, this will be my flag

take in the sides
take up the arm holes
shorten the sleeves
girlify the neckline
add a trim to neckline and sleeves


Sometimes it's nice to have a project finished within an hour!
