Upcycled Wrap Sweatshirt

This is a version of the Coppelia Wrap Sweatshirt that I made using all old XXL sweatshirts and one knit maxi skirt. I love all the colors together- purple cuffs, black and green front, blue sleeves and back, pink neckline. It turned out well and the fit is almost spot on. Flapper Costume from an Old Curtain

I made this flapper costume from an old satin curtain. To make it, I traced a dress I had onto the curtain on the bias. I flat felled the side seams and used ribbon as straps. The gold trim from the curtain became a fancy neckline on the dress. I used the same ribbon, plus some felt feathers and elastic, to make a matching headband. Upcycled Dress to Shirt

For this project, I used the circle skirt of a well loved (but stained in the bodice) purple knit dress. I laid the circle skirt flat and cut the pattern pieces for my shirt out of it. I kept the original hem on the end of the sleeves and bottom of the shirt. The skirt was made of 4 panels, so I centered my pattern pieces on the seams between them to preserve that detail. Skirt Slit

I bought this skirt some time ago at the thrift store. I love the varied stripes and midi length, but it was too narrow, which made it really hard to walk in! I cut a slit in the back and finished it with bias tape. I folded bias tape over the long edges first. Then I sewed a square of bias tape to the top of the slit to reinforce it- don't want it to rip! The slit has worked out well- I wear the skirt often now and can walk in it. For more of my projects check out my blog!

A maxi to wear to a wedding

This weekend I went to a wedding, and I refashioned an old prom dress to wear.

Bathing suit coverup from a thrift store dress

I found this collared dress that was too big. It is such a flowy dress, and the collar didn't really jive with the flowy-ness. Also the armholes were huge. I took the shoulder seams in by about 3 inches to raise the armholes and the hem. Then I cut off the neckline and did a bias finish. Instant bathing suit coverup! Shoulder pads no more!

I found this adorable number at the thrift store, complete with shoulder pads! But I liked the fabric, and all the details (lace, waistband, front pleats). Those shoulder pads needed to go. So, I cut the top off and made it into a spaghetti strap dress. I also hemmed it about 4 inches. For more pictures and instructions, click here!

Blue wrap dress

This is a modification I made to a blue polka dot wrap dress that I found at the thrift store. I cinched the straps, hemmed it, and used the extra fabric from the bottom to make cap sleeves. For more details and pictures, visit my blog, Hoopes Park Studios!

Wrap dress extension

I'm pleased to contribute my first post to the Refashion Co-op!
A friend of mine gave me this great wrap dress, but the skirt barely overlapped. It was a windy day disaster waiting to happen. I cut and sewed in an extra panel to give the skirt extra coverage. Now I can wear it without flashing people!
