Overly Colorful Sundress into crop top and skirt

My mom bought me this sundress from the thrift store, but it's way too many colors and kind of frumpy looking.

I took the ruffle off the bottom, cut it in half, and sewed it back together again:

Then I sewed it to the bottom of the bodice to make a crop top.

I took the skirt and hemmed it and changed the shape to be a bit more of an a-line.

And that was how I took this terrible dress and made it wearable.

Sun Cardigan

I've been getting really tan now that I live in the South, so I wanted to make a sun cardigan that I could wear with any of my dresses. I bought this tshirt from the thrift store:

It had a fun little lace-up detail on the back:

It was, however, much too drapey and long to be the sun cardigan I was looking for to wear over my dresses. So I chopped down the front and off the bottom, and made it into a little tie-on cardigan.

Two dress refashions

I did a couple of dress refashions recently.

The first one was a tropical print sundress that didn't fit very nicely and had a ruffle I didn't love at the bottom.

I thought the print was a bit too bright as well, so I added a bit of dark blue dye to darken the color a bit. Then I removed the ruffle and turned it into a belt. It was quick and easy.

The second refashion started as an odd dress with a tight elastic bodice that made my chest look super flat. 

I removed the bodice, re-shaped the dress and the lining, and added a new shoulder section out of a scrap of black cotton I had already.

Refashion Friday: War of the Roses

Hello! I'm S, and I blog at Two Half Eggs with my twin sister, K. And I like to refashion, obviously.

I thought I would introduce myself by sharing a few of my favorite projects.

The first is one that I made out of the ugliest red dress I could find at the thrift store. I took off the sleeves and made a new skirt out of the bottom section,

The second one is a dress I made for my sister out of a dress our grandmother wore all the time before she passed away. She wore it to our high school graduation and our cousin's wedding. So I took the sleeves off and took in the sides to make it younger and more fashionable so that we can keep wearing her dress.
