Brooke's new wardrobe

Before:
My local thrift store was having a great holiday sale; if you donated 4 cans of food you'd get a free garbage bag full of clothes. Needless to say, I stocked up for my new refashioning hobby. (Sorry about the picture quality, I have since purchased a new camera, so I hope the quality will be a little better)
This all started when my daughter introduced me to Pinterest. I was fascinated by all the creative and talented people refashioning clothes. So I decided to give it a try. Now I'm completely hooked! I started with making some clothes for my 3 year old grand daughter from my thrift store purchases. Here are the after pictures:

Check out my blog for tutorials on how to make some of these clothes. Thanks!

How to find a Pinterest Anonymous meeting near you

Yes, I admit it.  My little Pinterest "problem" has manifested itself into a full blown ADDICTION.  Like most suffering from a Pinterest (or Facebook or Twitter) dependency, denial was my first approach:
"Oh no!  I'm totally fine.  I just do it occasionally.  I can stop at any time."
When that no longer held any dice with the hubby, I decided to try justification:
"Well honey, they do have great recipes posted.  Remember that bacon cheddar bread I made for you last week?"
That bought me some "time" and before you know it, I was THE Pinterest dealer amongst my closest friends and colleagues:
"Sure, I'll send you an invite.  Just remember though, you get caught or addicted to this stuff, you didn't get it from me....comprende?
Of course, acceptance is always the hardest step to take, and I think I'm just about there (read:  I'm "pinning" while writing this post).  So, in honor of my recovery process, I decided to share this no sew refash inspired by one of my favorite hair trends from one of my greatest weaknesses...Pinterest.
Step 1:  Take left over hem from a shortened refashion
Step 2:  Snip at 1 side seam, creating 1 long piece
Step 3:  Iron the raw edges in and experiment in tying your hair back.

Painted Oxfords

Before:

I picked up these oxfords at the thrift store for a couple of dollars. Unfortunately, I didn't love the all white.
So I broke out my acrylic craft paints and here they are now:

Lots O' Undies

My 2 year old is really getting the hang of using the potty but still has some accidents during the day. He's still a ways off from mastering nighttime pottying, but that's okay. He loves to wear what he calls "diaper undies" and so this weekend I made him up a few pairs to try out a new pattern. They have been a hit! I also sold a few pairs over the weekend which was a nice bonus :) The first two are the ones that sold, then didn't fit so I took them back on trade for a different style since she had them for all of an hour and will get put up in my shop.

Pattern is the Trimsies Trainer pattern and it is fantastic! There are so many ways to sew these up and each version and size has it's own pattern....no more cutting into them for just one trainer. Well with the $8 or so investment :)

All are size L (3T) and were made with a mix of new/thrifted/recycled fabrics. They are 3 layers, an inner, an outer and a mid layer. There is a soaker layer sewn into the mid layer.

Crushed panne inner, Women's 3X T-shirt outer, T-shirt hidden layer and soaker made from t-shirts and the inner of an old diaper that was falling apart

Minky inner, Vintage thrifted outer, T-shirt hidden layer and soaker made from t-shirts and the inner of an old diaper that was falling apart

T-shirt inner, outer, hidden and soaker made from t-shirts and an microfiber cloth from the dusting pile.Shirt says "UAF Intramural Champions". I got this shirt back in college (uni. of alaska fairbanks) when my water polo team won the championships.

On the left is a crushed panne inner, thrifted outer, T-shirt hidden layer and soaker made from t-shirts and the inner of an old diaper that was falling apart
On the right is a poly fleece (maybe, who knows) thrifted inner, an Old Navy blanket outer, T-shirt hidden layer and soaker made from t-shirts and the inner of an old diaper that was falling apart.

That's all for tonight. I do have a whole stack of "in progress" projects that I look foward to sharing with the group shortly!

Bite me, winter.

One of these days, I will do some complicated, amazing refashion that will make all of you wonder how on earth I came up with the idea of turning that into this. But today, it's once again all about the simple fix. Besides, I needed a quick project that I could just knock out to give me a mental break from a rather complicated from-scratch project. So here we go!

I found this lovely piece while thrifting with my friends on Saturday. It was pretty good as is, though a bit big just under the arms. But I wasn't really a fan of those shoulder ruffles. With the embroidery and the asymmetric hemline, it was just too much.

So I took them away, and took in the top about 4", and I think the cleaner look suits it much better. Now I just need it to get warm so I can actually wear it!

There's a little more detail here, if you're interested.
