Snatch ‘em & Patch ‘em Jeans

My fantastic new-to-me crocheted tunic (thrifted for only a €1!) definitely deserved some equally awesome bohemian bottoms…so I snatched a pair of loose fitting jeans from my stash + a bunch o' scraps, grabbed my scissors & got to work!

The result? An adorable outfit with flower child flair:

Here’s how to make a pair of your own perfectly patched jeans...

Making an "Old Lady Skirt" Teenager Worthy!

We were gifted some skirts by a dear lady.  She is very dear to us, but from a different generation.  To be fair, she knows our love for skirts, and our love for refashioning, and gave the skirts to us with that purpose in mind!  So here was the before picture.  (I couldn't even get my teen to model it this time!)
So we cut 10 inches off the bottom and sewed up a new hem.  Then I unpicked about 4 inches of the waist and tightened the elastic.  It was a size 22W and my teen is not!
Tada!  A skirt a teen will wear!  She says pleats are really in, and she's very happy with it!
Come on over to our blog, Skirt Fixation, for lots more skirt refashions, and to read all about the new sewing competition that starts next week.  You can link up and win prizes!

Neglected Skirt into Flirty Apron

My sister gave me a skirt she was finished with. I always liked the skirt when she wore it, but I am not really a skirt person.

I cut the skirt into halves, front and back. The front half I left unaltered.  The back half I cut into a bib, straps and pockets. I used every bit of skirt except the zipper.

Pretty easy refashioning, and I like the repeating pink color block. This once-neglected skirt will now get lots of use.

Copycat Tribal Refashion

Hi Everyone!

.Summer vacation has finally arrived and not a moment too soon! It has been a long school year and I am ready for some serious rest, relaxation, and creation!

.Below you will see the "AFTER" of my latest project. With this refashion, you will see how making mistakes doesn't necessarily mean your project is doomed to the rag pile. Watch how I adapt to design problems and mistakes that happen along the way.

.Here is the AFTER:

A casual jersey and linen t-shirt with color blocking and bit of a tribal feel. This is just perfect for summer with jeans or shorts, but the journey to get there wasn't easy.

This is the first of the two pieces I put together to make it happen. It was a brand name polo shirt made of a beautifully weighted black jersey. There was also braid trim down the sleeves which I kept on the refashioned item.

This linen dress was the printed piece. It looked pretty sad as is, but I saw potential in the beautiful tribal looking print.
