I wondered if it might look better as a top?
I cut out the huge pockets, creating two arm holes in the side. I cut out the crotch to create a skirt-like shape. I hemmed the rough edges, and sewed up the holes where the crotch used to be. I strung a black cord through the convenient space in the waistband. This is what the top looks like now...
I think much much better! What do you all think? Is it wearable now? What should I pair it with?

I think it looks great even without the belt.
Wow I've never heard of 'Skort' before so you learn something every day! It looks much better and the waist belt sets it off well.
