For as much boating and swimming I do throughout the year it's funny that I don't have any sort of cover-up. I always remember how beneficial a cover-up is when we spend the night at a hotel with a pool. Running from the room to the pool and the pool to the room through the lobby in my swim suit in the middle of winter is always pretty awkward.
My parents took me and the hubby for a weekend of fun in Frankenmuth, MI. And as luck would have it the hotel had a pool! I also realized I would need a cover-up BEFORE we left for our little trip.
I was lucky enough to score this shirt for .50 cents! I was particularly excited about this find because my grandparents live in New Port Richey, FL which is close to Tampa, FL!
I suspect this shirt was washed with something red judging by its pale pink color. But hey I like pink!
Okay, Okay, I have been DYEING (pun intended) to Tie Dye something! What better item to tie dye than my new cover-up?!? I also think the pink would look awesome showing through some tie dye!
There are some amazing tutorials on tie dye patterns online. I went with a simple spiral design.
I secured my spiral with 4 rubber bands which made 6 wedges in the shirt ready for dye!
First I needed to protect my work surface. I decided to do my dyeing on the concrete floor in the laundry room. I laid down 2 plastic garbage bags and defiantly used rubber gloves. I chose blue and turquoise dye. I alternated the 2 dye colors.
After the dye has been applied.
You want to keep your project moist, so I wrapped my shirt in plastic wrap. Let sit for 6-8 hours. I let mine sit for 6 hours.
After, the 6 hours was up, I ran the shirt in cool water until the water ran clear. Then with a small amount of detergent I washed in hot water and let it air dry.
The finished dye product!
Now for the finishing touches! I cut a V out of the top of the shirt. Then I began to cut the sleeves and bottom into thin strips to make fringe!
Pool, beach and boat ready!

Cute cover up. I know what you mean about walking through the hotel in a bathing suit. Haha, it is awkward.
