I picked up a couple of summer shirts the other day at the thrift store ($1 a piece) - I liked the fabric patterns but the general silhouette wasn't good on me - tent-like shirts don't tend to do much for me (I'm not really sure who they
do work well for). But a few rows of stitching with elastic thread and they're transformed:

baggy and boxy

I do have a waist!!
looking 6 months pregnant (which I'm not)

and less tent-like
More info and some links to good tutorials on elastic thread on
my blog.

Terrific idea. I'm trying to fit a too large top to me. I never thought about the elastic thread at the waistline.
Well done! I usually avoid shirts like that unless I want to do the whole rip-the-seams-out-and-resew-with-a-slimmer-silhouette-thing, but this is such a quick and easy fix. Elastic thread, here I come!
those came out cute! great job!
