RanchHouse July/August Sewing Goal:
- Mend, alter, refashion 10 House Dresses. This is #7.
My House Dresses are:
- Not a fashion statement.
- Not time intensive to finish/fit like going-out clothing is.
- Great loungers, nightgowns, pool cover-up, garden dresses.
- Good use for large stash of after-retirement clothes.
After: Unfitted House Dress |
Before:
*Dress: Very well worn pre-retirement Cotton blend sun dress. Fabric is too worn for more than a House dress.
*T-Shirt: Over-sized pre-retirement teachers shirt with school logo.
Steps:
*Dress: Remove zipper and bodice. Use bodice to add width in the snug skirt section.
*T-shirt: Re-cut using bodice pattern from drop sleeve dress. Remove and re-attach neck binding. Join at waist using 1" seam. Fold seam up to bodice, top stitch to form casing, and insert thin elastic in casing.
What I Learned: When I used the bodice pattern with wovens it was a good fit. With the stretch in the t-knit it was oversized which is ok for the casual House Dress.
Well worn sundress fabric |
Before: Pre-Retirement Sundress, School Logo T-shirt. |

Love the colors.
Looks like a comfortable house dress. The bodice is such a great cheery colour
