Glitter-tastic

My reading glasses are falling apart.  Literally.  For the last couple of years, the only thing holding the lens in is a staple twisted through the screw hole.  Well I finally had enough so I purchased a 3 pack of reading glasses from Walmart.  Glasses these days have turned into works of art and these plain Jane glasses just weren't going to cut it. 

While at Walmart, I also bought Mod Podge, paint, paint brushes, and glitter. 

The paint is for refashioning the other glasses which I'm not sharing today so ignore that.

I applied the Mod Podge around the lens frames and sprinkled glitter all over the glue.  I let this dry and then filled in gaps with more Mod Podge and glitter.  I kept doing this until I was satisfied with the glitter coverage.  And there you have it.

Floral Eternity Scarf

I'm not feeling especially verbose today so forgive me if my post seems a little short.

I purchased this dress at a yard sale.  The print was what really sold it. 

There were two layers of material; the lighter outer floral material, and the heavier black lining.  I cut the outer layer just below the armpits.

And then I sewed some black lace around the rough edges.  With some strategic draping, I now have a cute eternity scarf.

Refashioned Lace Embellishment

I'm trying so hard to get back into the refashioning habit again but work is just eating up all my free time!  I've got a very simple refashion to share today and I am very fond of this one.

We start with this maroon dress.  You're getting a sneak peak of one of my many other projects I'm working on.

I removed the lace embellishment and sewed it to a piece of felt for extra support.

I trimmed around the lace, cutting as close to the seam as I could.

I had every intention of making this into a headband but I couldn't find the right elastic.  I was too eager to wait so I pinned it to my hair and I think it turned out rather well.

Floral Surprise

Hey strangers!  I should be beaten for falling off of the map for so long but I got that refashion itch again and I decided to finish up some projects that I've let fall to the way side.  I'm so excited about this refashion that I haven't even posted the project to my blog yet!

I present to you... the floral skirt!  I bought this at a yard sale and left it in my closet for a long time.  Back in the spring, I decided to pull it out and try it on, and if it fit, I was going to wear it to work.

Imagine my surprise when....

Holy tamoley!  It was a skort!  I initially thought about being lazy and just separating the skirt from the shorts and just calling it a day.  Oh no!  That was too easy and I like a challenge!  I was inspired by this dress and this dress.  Gorgeous, right? 

I started by removing the shorts from the skirt.

 

I then took apart the crotch of the shorts.

I flipped the shorts upside down and sewed the waist of the shorts to the waist of the skirt.

I removed the zipper from the skirt, sewed the opening of the skirt closed, and reattached the zipper further up the back on the shorts.

This is where things became difficult and I eventually gave up.  I had a super hard time fitting the shorts around my chest.  Once I did get the right fit, I chopped off the upper (crotch part) of the shorts.  I then kept playing with the fit until I threw in the towel.  Fortunately, several months later, I picked it back up and gave it another try. 

Here it is now.

I'm still working on the top hem but I just couldn't wait to share it. 

I even have my accessories already picked out!  Once I'm 100% finished, I'll post pictures of the dress on me.  It looks even better on my person than the mannequin, if you can imagine!

Recycled Paint Roll

I've been painting my bedroom and, as it happens, I ran out of painters tape.  I was about the throw the roll away and it struck me!  AHA!  Bracelet!

This project didn't cost a thing because I used materials I had lying around the house.

As my hot glue was heating up, I ironed the material and cut a piece large enough to wrap around the tape roll.

I wrapped the material around the roll and folded the excess material inside the roll.  I secured the material by hot-gluing the material to the inside of the roll.

I wasn't very concerned with how neat the bottom layer material looked because I planned on wrapping a layer of lace around the roll next.

I angled the lace so that it wrapped around the roll easier and it looked cleaner.  All together, this project took a total of ten minutes to complete.

I had a really hard time taking a picture of my arm.

And there you have it!  A ten minute project that cost nothing!

Refashion Crisis

Everyone was so helpful when I needed help with my Simple Skirt Refahion, that I thought I would reach out again.
 

Yikes!  I was working on this project and in my haste, I twisted this strap and did not notice until I had finished my alterations and had placed it on the mannequin.  Sigh...
 

The problem is that I kind of like the look of the twisted strap but I cannot make up my mind!!

What do you think?  Twisted strap or original?  Or do you have an even better idea?

Simple skirt refashion

This refashion is so simple that I wouldn't have posted it except I need everyone's help.  

This refashion really doesn't even require description.  My huge problem is that I need inspiration for what to do with the ruffle.  Thoughts please?

DIY Shoe Accessories

Shoes are wonderful, aren't they?  But after a while, even the best pair of shoes can use a pick me up.  I came up with a clever way to give your shoes an extra oomph.

Fabric Covered Sunglasses

I've got another sunglass refashion for you.  You will need:

• Scrap fabric
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun
• Sunglasses (the cheaper the better!)

 This sleeve gives you a little sneak peek of a project I've been working on.

I popped the lenses out of the sunglasses.

I glued the fabric to the outside frame of the glasses and cut around the frame, leaving about a quarter of an inch of material.  I folded this material down around the back of the frame and glued it down.  I then cut out the material inside the frame so that I could pop the lenses back in.

After popping the lenses back in, you can either leave the earpieces bare or cover these with fabric.  It looks good both ways but I decided to cover mine.  You just need to glue the material to the earpiece.  Make sure there is enough material to fold around the whole earpiece when you cut it out. 

And there you have it!  Fabric covered sunglasses!

Lace Covered Sunglasses

I have a really fun and silly project for everyone today!  Behold the before picture!

I bought these sunglasses at the dollar store for one whole dollar.  I glued a piece of lace to the lens.

I trimmed the lace around the lens as closely to the frame as I could.  I then used my thumbnail to tuck the lace into the crease between the lens and the frame.  Do the same with the other lens and you have some nifty sunglasses!

You can see out of these but I do not recommend participating in any sort of activity while wearing them!

Refashioned Red Dress

This dress is one of the many I bought at the school yard sale back in April.

There was so much wrong with this dress: the collar, the buttons, the sleeves.  You get the point.  What's funny is that the only reason I even began working on this dress is because I liked the print and I needed some of the fabric for another project.

I removed the sleeves, collar, buttons, and front faux-breast pockets.

Next, I removed the buttons from the front and sewed the front closed.  Because the front looked so wonky, I decided to turn the dress around.  Lastly, I removed about a foot and a half of material from the bottom of the dress and hemmed all of the rough edges.

Now I want everyone's opinion.  Does the dress look better with no belt, the skinny black belt, or the matching belt?  I also have a black chunky belt I am thinking of pairing with the dress...

Refashioned Pearl Snap Top

Whoops!  It's been a little while since I've posted.  To get right to the point, I've been in need of some cute tops to wear to our local rodeos and events.

I've had this top hanging out in my closet for a while.

Just a smidge boring, right?  Add a little lace and voila!
