More Fun With Sweaters

This is an oldie but goody. I apologize for the lack of before photos.  I turned a small man's sweater into a sweater dress for the Little Miss by adding brown corduroy (from a failed sewing project) to the hem.  I also had to take in the shoulders and shorten the sleeves to get it to fit her.  She loved it and wore it til she outgrew it.

A Boot Refashion

Happy Year All! Just dropping by with a (fairly simple) boot refashion I completed last week. My sis bought me a pair of black fabric boots after I killed my black leather boots. The only problem is the calf area was too big - definitely a problem I've never encountered before. Since it was fabric, and not leather, I thought it would be super simple to punch some holes and make the boots snug to the top of my calf. Maybe if I'd had an awl it would have been simpler...but an upholstery sewing needle, latch hook, and velvet ribbon on clearance at Michael's did the trick!

$1.99 for the ribbon and a little time made all the difference. Love these now!

Sweatshirts to Tunic Dress

I turned these two sweatshirts into a simple, tunic-style dress for DD, the Little Miss.



(I had already cut the top sweatshirt and snapped the photo with the matching thrifted pants.) I had originally gotten the XL striped Mossimo sweatshirt for myself, but I'm just a tad too (*cough cough*)healthy for it to look good. With a few snips and a single new seam, the new tunic dress looks great on the Little Miss.

Another Sweater Refashion

I've been out of commission for most of this month. My mom passed away suddenly four weeks ago.
I did this refashion a while ago. I started out with this sweater/dickey combo thing.


At 1x, it was too big and I wasn't thrilled with the shiny false-shirt fabric. So I removed the dickey, took in the sides, and used scrap yarn to crochet a decorative neck edge.

I love this sweater now.

Painted Shoe Love

I have big feet (size 11US) and that can make shoe shopping a depressing thing. And forget getting shoes from the thrifts! But…I got lucky the a few months ago. I found these pink Via Spiga shoes for $4.99 at the Salvation Army.


I’m not in love with pink but the shoes were my size, $4.99, and leather. I bought them then looked for ways to make them wearable. In my Internet searching, I came across Sassy Feet. I bought their book and their starter kit. After painting the shoes and using thrifted glass beads and some jewelry wire on the buckle, those $4.99 babies look like this:

I’m in love now! And I’m really pleased with my first shoe-painting adventure!  There will be more (adventures, that is).

An Introduction & a Simple Refashion

Hi Everybody,
I am JuliN and am pleased to become a part of Refashion Co-op! You all are so very creative and talented!
I participated a little in Wardrobe Refashion and really missed it when it closed down. I mainly submitted items I had re-made for my daughter, not much for me.
Kudos to the editors of Refashion Co-op for providing another forum for us. All of the contributors are so creative! I have been a lurker for several months (and admit to being a shameless style-biter! - and chronic exclamation point over-user...). Deciding to participate in Self-Stitched September for the first time has kicked refashioning clothes for myself into high

This refashion was pretty simple. I took this ill-fiting turquoise cardigan...


and turned it into a more flattering wrap-style by repostitioning the buttons.
